Using assignee form field answers for automation

I'm looking for a way to use the answers provided in the form to assign a task or add a person as an approver.

For example, when creating a Request Form, one of the questions is the "Assignee" question type, allowing the submitter to select a person from all active account users. Let's call this "Manager" for the field name in this example. 

Once a user submits a request thru the form, is there a way to create an automation to take the person in the "Manager" field and assign them as the approver on the task? Or assign the task to that person as a less effective back up?

If you have a fixed set of approvers, I would suggest checking out this answer.
 
However, if the goal is to have the selected assignee (from all active users) automatically added as an approver, you might need to use a workaround, as directly assigning an assignee as an approver based on form answers is currently not available.
 
For example, you could set up a process where the task is initially assigned to a default user, who then adds the necessary approvers based on the form responses. You can store the form answer in a different field, such as the description, for the default assignee to reference.
 
Alternatively, if the assignee also needs to be an approver, you can create an automation rule for the bot to @mention the assignee to add themselves as an approver.
 
These are some possible workarounds, and we can wait for others to contribute and share if there are additional solutions.
