Custom formula fields in charts and dashboards

Having custom fields available as metrics in the chart view is really useful but why are on number and currency types available? It would be great to be able to plot custom formula fields too. It would make these fields even more useful if I could see them as a plot e.g. sorted by assignee, not just in a table.
