Folllowing List for Post: [Status: Not planned] Convert a Task into a Project
[this list is visible for admins and agents only]
Definitely! need to have the ability to convert tasks in to projects!
Hi everyone! @Brian, we've been discussing this as a team, but it's not on the short term roadmap just yet, so I don't have a time frame to share right now @Rob and @Michael, thanks for weighing in on this!
Just wanted to add my vote for the ability to turn tasks into projects, I was really surprised to not be able to do that, it seems like a simple but crucial function that should be included in every PM app. I hope it makes it to the short list very soon. I too planned on using Wrike for GTD, but this inability makes it very difficult to implement.
Adding a vote for turning a task into a project. I was surprised it wasn't possible especially while being able to convert Folders to Projects and vice versa. As the promo video says, project planning is messy! I work with a big mind dump and sort hierarchies after that, and this functionality would create a nearly perfect tool for me.
Any painless work arounds at the moment?
Your short term roadmap is wrong, and needs to be changed. Either that or these forums are a waste of all our time.
Hi Jason! I completely understand, everyone is going to want something slightly different on our roadmap, and as great as it would be, we can't do everything at once. I know that doesn't help to get this done any faster, but I wanted to explain where our team is coming from.
That said, even if we're not making immediate changes or can't act on all feedback, I can't stress enough how important the forums are to our internal team. Not only are the forums our primary source of feedback but we've made a huge effort to make sure that the threads you write, upvotes posted, and comments written actually get looked at by our Product team.
We've already made some changes based on feedback from the forums (like releasing a beta fix for recurrent tasks) and I genuinely can't wait for us to do more.
Just added my vote - converting a task into a project is a biggie.
Darn... my googling led to this page too. I am so bummed that this isn't possible. Please add!
I would love this feature too!
Just checking if you have this on your roadmap yet, or an approximate timeframe we can expect this to happen.
I'm not as concerned with the emailing portion of this issue that others have talked about. I find it annoying when a task gets going and it becomes apparent at a certain point that it should really be it's own project and there is no way to convert it. I could create a new project and copy over the description and turn the sub-tasks into tasks but the big issue for me is that there is no way to transfer over the comments. Having the discussion history is important for me team. Also, this transferring over of information is time consuming.
I wish you could simply right click a task and convert it to a project and indicate where the project is to live.
Hi everyone, just sharing a quick update to break the silence here. We still don't have any concrete plans to share, but it's something the team is considering. Thanks for keeping this topic active!
@anastasia there is enough people requesting this feature i think it is time for the team to take action i too want this asap thanks
I can't believe this is not on your radar, Wrike team!
Not a day goes by that I don't wish this function was available.
Please take note!
Thanks,
Diana
adding my vote for converting task into project.
I would also like to vote this up for the next upgrade.
I had a project that started off as one project which has now grown into a program with the tasks becoming sub-projects in their own right. Making wrike scalable and adaptable to this kind of need would be very beneficial for users and wrike as a tool.
I greatly appreciate having the collaborative means of using wrike and would like to see it grow and have the agility to scale as needed. Thank you!
Adding my vote to this. (Change Task to Project/Folder)
Yes, please, a create a 'convert task to project' feature.
The workaround of creating a project and copying over the information does not provide for preserving the discussion without leaving the old task around.
Also voting for this feature.
Did this ever happen?
@anastasia - what status does this request currently have? How does demand for this request compare with other requests you are considering?
@Mathieu We're still seeing your votes, but the functionality has not been released.
@Lance Jumping in for Anastasia here, I don't have an update on this right now, but as soon as I have something I will share it here.
Converting tasks into project or folder is a standard fundamental feature!
Please consider this in your next release. Thanks
Hi everyone, this isn't on our short-term roadmap at the moment, we're still tracking all threads for votes and comments and have ongoing conversations with the Product Team.
@Stephanie, as the OP, I'm going to circle back on this now that it's been nearly 1 year since posting this. I find it quite frustrating that we haven't progressed any further with this. It seems like such a basic functionality of any project management tool. We are managing without it, but it's annoying because we are either spending extra time to translate information from one type to the other, or we are not maintaining appropriate organization by creating subtasks that should be their own task instead.
I can't imagine this is truly that difficult an update for the developers. I feel like we've been getting product updates with new features that no one was begging for. They may be great features and all, but are they as important as addressing all of the suggestions on the first page of this community?
@Stephanie, this request now has 2 pages of support. Can you please bring this to the attention of the development team? This is a significant limitation of the software that should be addressed.
@Phillip @Naomi I know how important this is to teams, we're making sure to run reports for our team based on the votes and comments on this thread. We'll continue checking in with the teams regularly and I can guarantee that each time we post here with any type of update here (even saying that somethings not on the roadmap), we've had a conversation with the Product team.
Adding my vote here.
Please add this feature.
Would love to turn a task into a project.
I and our all members are strongly waiting this convert function.
So, I voted to the original post.
