Task Following Disallowed?

This morning, my team quickly discovered that the Follow/Unfollow button on a task no longer allows you to manually add followers to the task. Is this a deliberate change? We use this feature to notify supervisors when tasks are completed, so it's an important part of how we use Wrike. I don't see any announcement of a change though - can anyone clarify what's happening here?
