How to Delete Custom Fields (Columns) in Wrike
I was just testing out how to delete custom fields in Wrike and I discovered there's not an obvious intuitive way to do this.
This was really frustrating before I found the solution because I thought I'd just have to either hide it (which felt like sweeping dirt under a rug) or rename it.
Luckily, there is in fact a way to delete custom fields in Wrike without having to find work arounds. 🙂
All you need to do is go all the way to the left of the Table view of your Folder/Project/Task (whichever/wherever you're wanting to remove the custom field), and you'll see a gear icon at the top left corner.
At the bottom you'll see the the custom fields you created.
Beneath there, you'll see a button that says "Manage Custom Fields". Click on it.
In that menu, you'll see the custom fields you created. Just right click on the custom field you created and click the "Remove" button. And BOOM! Your annoying custom field you couldn't remove is gone :)
If you experience any issues with removing it from everything, just find the folder/project the custom filed is stuck to and you'll be able to get rid of it from there, but it should just go away if you clear it from the parent folder.
Hope this helps!
Wow, Zack, thank you so much for this! I'm sure it will be helpful for many people on the Community - I for one didn't know about this option 👍
Here's a screenshot to add to your amazing post
I'd add that you can also rename a Custom Field to reuse it.
Thank you again Zack, I'm moving your post to the Best Practice section 🙌

Super helpful! As we mature in our use of Wrike certain fields are no longer necessary, so this really helps clean house. 👏
I understand you can delete a custom field from the certain folders but is their way to delete the field all together out of Wrike? I've removed a custom field from my blueprint but when I create a new project from my blueprint the field still populates.
Hey Melissa Lockett, welcome to the Community 🙂
You can rename the Custom Field and change its settings to reuse it - here are the instructions.

Lisa - I stumbled upon this thread, and it still appears true. Am I looking at this correctly? My options are only to remove it from the folder/project or reuse it as something else? I'm unable to completely delete a custom field entirely from Wrike? If so, this sounds similar to hiding it but in a "more pleasing way."
Dang. I will have to remember this when creating them. As PM with a team new to Wrike, we're still creating many new processes. This has allowed us to fine tune ourselves as a department, but there are some that may not work or we may not use exactly how we thought. Thus, we would want to entirely delete an item like a custom field when it's not used - and never will be used.
We'd really like the option to completely erase custom field titles as well!
Hey guys, there's a similar Product Feedback post here:

From what I'm seeing, this isn't working for me. When I am in "Table" View, I go to the "gear" and I click on "Manage custom fields" and my custom fields are displayed, yes. But then "right click" gives me the options of "Edit" or "Add to this project". There is no "Delete" or even "Remove from this folder"
While I am able to remove the fields from the Table (columns), the custom fields remain visible in the "List" view of the project. I'm puzzled by the variance reported by Users.
I did upvote the request to grant delete custom fields to users. This is really needed. Sometimes experiments fail and this is just additional technical debt.
Hey Leanne Downs, those options appear for custom fields that are not currently in the Project / Folder that you are viewing. Also, removing the custom field from the project does not delete it, you can still find it in the dropdown menu for adding custom fields.
Hope this helps! The Product Feedback thread you upvoted will be updated with any developments in the status of this suggestion, so I'll keep you posted on any updates. If you have any other questions, let me know 😊
Hi Hugh - thank you for your response. However, those custom fields (unchecked / not visible in "Table" view) are still showing up on the Project record. I've been trying to remove them. :-)
Hi Leanne Downs, when you say "Project Record", do you mean this menu in a Project?
It is currently not possible to remove these custom fields from this view, but the Product team is currently investigating the possibility of adding the ability to delete custom fields from Wrike. If there are any updates on that I'll let you know.
Thank you for your reply! Let me know if this helped 😊
