Make/Transition a Project into a Folder

Beantwortet

I accidentally created a project and I want to make it a folder. Is there a way to easily move it from one to the other without losing all the tasks within the project?

Hi Karen - Yes, just right click the Project in the left hand navigation menu select:

Right Click > Project > Turn into Folder

Or, if you are viewing the parent folder above this project in the 'List' view, you can just right Click>Convert to Folder. Shouldn't have any impact on the child items from what I have seen doing this in the past.

Karen,

Here is a screenshot of the "Turn into Folder" menu item if it helps.

Hey Josue Paytan, apologies for the late reply!

You can now click on the three-dot menu of your project and click on "Change item type" to convert a project into a folder:

I hope this helps 🙂

Hi there,

It seems like things have changed again?  I don't see where we can change a project to folder in the three dot drop down.

Thanks, Sean

Hi Sean Smukler 👋 thank you for getting back. The method shared by Lisa to change the item type using the three-dot menu still works. Please let me know if you don't have this option so that I can raise a Support Ticket on your behalf. Alternatively, you can use a couple of other methods to "Change item type" to convert a project to a folder:

Method 1: Using the Right-Click Menu

  1. Locate the project in the left-hand navigation panel
  2. Right-click on the project
  3. Select "Change item type" from the menu and then select "Folder"

    Method 2: Using Table View

    1. Navigate to the selected folder, project, or space and switch to Table view
    2. Hover over the project number and click on the box to the left of the title
    3. Click on "Item type" from the toolbar to open a drop-down menu
    4. Choose the folder option from the list

I hope this answers your question. Thanks!
