Dashboard widgets
You should be able to create custom widgets directly based on the custom search options already available (instead of having to do it indirectly from the search function list view first). Then once you do create one you should be able to edit pre-built widgets, widgets based on search results, or widgets based on Analytics charts all directly from the dashboards tab.
