Highlight Custom Field IF Empty

It would be helpful to have custom fields be able to be highlighted if they meet certain conditions. For example, once our projects reach the "SOW Approved" status, we should have our "Quantity" custom field filled out. It would be great to be able to set an automation that says, "If Status is changed to "SOW Approved" and "Custom Field: Quantity" is Empty, "Highlight Custom Field: Quantity".

Thanks!

This just recently came up for us as well. We have some fields that are populated when a request is submitted, but others that need to be populated once a request has been approved. It would be great if those could be highlighted to help the teams stay on top of this.

Sean Gilbertson our current workaround is a dashboard widget that displays anything with the approved status where at least one of the mandatory fields is missing. The coloring of the missing field would be better, but this has been a useful solution for us thus far.

Hi Sean Gilbertson 👋 thanks for posting! We will forward your feedback to our product team now 👍

Workaround: Have you tried creating an Automation rule that triggers a comment/notification when the project status changes to "SOW Approved" and the "Quantity" custom field is empty?

Apply rule to Project
Trigger: When status changes to - SOW Approved
Condition: Custom Field (Quantity) - Is empty
Action: Add comment or mention (Owners/Author)

Let us know if this helps. Thanks!

Thanks Rohan V, that is the solution we're using currently, but having the field highlighted would better suit our needs. Also, @author and @owners doesn't necessarily notify the person who changed the status in certain use cases. Being able to notify the person who triggered the action would be more helpful in this instance. I appreciate the suggestion though!

Ashley Fischer, that's a helpful suggestion! I'll discuss that with our team and see if they'd find that less annoying than being mentioned in the comments. Thanks!

Rohan V I think this is a great solution if there is just one field that needs to be filled in, however if there are multiple fields, the notifications could be annoying/overwhelming for the team.

Having the conditional colors would be a better solution as it would allow the people who are accountable/assigned to quickly see all actions that are needed on their side without having to go through a ton of notifications. It would also allow their managers and company leadership to see the gaps and follow up with the assignees.

I think a combination of the 2 solutions would be the most powerful.
