Combine Tasks Together
Hiya,
I'd love it if there was an option to group tasks together, or convert a task to a subtask within another task.
Currently our team is inputting time to form a timeline view/gantt chart view of jobs to do, which is based off a campaign planner. Often we are aware that the campaign will happen before the jobs actual request/requirements come in.
When those requests do come in we ask the clients to complete a request form so that there is a structure in place to what they are asking for, so would be really cool if we could plan the time in advance and then combine the pre-planned task with the request that contains the data?
Our current workarounds are either, copying the pre-planned/scheduled sub-tasks to the 'request' when it is submitted. Or going the other way and copying the request information into the pre-planned task.
Similarly, if a couple of requester but in jobs that we can group together (i.e. client A asks for amends to a deliverable, client B asks for different amends to the same deliverable so it can be used elsewhere)
Thanks! :)
Hi Holly! I love that you're using Request forms, what you describe is a great use case for them. We don't currently have functionality that lets you merge two (or more) existing tasks, but there is a request for that in our Product Feedback section. If you could add a +1 there, that helps us keep track of how many people are interested in that type of functionality (and share that information with our PMs).
You are able to convert a task into a subtask though! Our help center page has detailed instructions on how to do that, but please let me know if you have any questions about it!
Just realised I didn't reply to this message, but we're going to utilise the subtasks to get what we need :)
Thanks!
No problem, happy to hear that!
From time to time our team inadvertently creates more than one project for the same project. It would be great to be able to combine them at some level.
We too see a need for this. Making one the subtask of another is an ok workaround but this happens more than you think. Multiple people create their version of a similar task, especially if there is shared responsibility. It would be great for a utility to provide the option to identify the tasks in question. Pick which one should be the master. it could also give an option for which description should be kept, or allow for one description to be appended to the other. The biggest problem we have is keeping the comment streams of both. I think that could and should always be appended. Really cool if it would merge by date of the comment stream. but that might be asking for a lot.
