Make custom fields adjustable in size

It would be a good update if you the dev team could allow users to adjust the width of custom fields, and have them permanently stay at the adjusted size. I hope the image below better describes this. Currently to view an entire fields data, I have to hover over or click on it.

Hi Laurence, this is an interesting idea. It's not on Product Team's short-term roadmap but I'm happy to see members vote and discuss it here to influence future internal discussions. Thanks for sharing!

Stephen, Thank you for your feedback. I am quite sure that the Dev ream has much more important features to work on, but it is these little improvements that go a long way in making software more user friendly. I hope more people agree.

Agree,

Cells should have option to auto resize based on screen size being used to speed up use and reduce clicks.

Agreed on staying at adjusted size and auto resize.

I like to use the project summary page as a summary page, and as the new form functionality migrates much of the content out of Description into custom fields, it becomes more important that we be able to size those fields so the content can be easily consumed.

@Paul I just want to make sure - you prefer having the data mapped to the Custom Fields instead of the description, but you want to be able to resize Custom Fields?

@Stephanie, yes, i really like the ability to map inputs from forms into custom fields rather than having them all in the Description field (we used to then cut and paste into custom fields). So what would be nice would be an ability to make the data in those custom fields more "visually accessible."  As an example, we have a text field called "status narrative" that is used in our status reports and updated to amplify the status of a project or task.  When a person views that project info page, they see the first 10 characters or so, and then even when they click on that field, they have to scroll horizontally to read the content.  I would like to be able to make that field larger so it can be read (at least some number of lines for a text field) more easily.

@Paul Got it, thank you for confirming and giving some more details!

When printing a task, (normally to PDF for archiving or jotting notes down in a meeting) the Custom Fields are not printed, even when the fields are visible in the task window and print is selected.

Obviously would need to be able read all of the content of each field as well.

@Paul C. I really like this idea and can see how it would come in useful. It's very relevant to this thread though I think it would be also great if it was posted as a standalone Feedback post so other members can find it easier and we can keep all the votes for it in one place. Thanks you 🙂

I support this request to adjust the size and even the location of these fields. Of course they should print with the Project/Task. Available soon please?

I would like to see this feature as well. Being able to resize these custom fields or have them auto-resize would be useful.

This is crucial for my team. We use custom fields for campaign emails subject lines, preheader text, and (ideally) from and reply email addresses. For people on our team who aren't full users, they can't see the entire field so I have to forward then the subject line if their building an email. Obviously this is a pain. It's useful to have this as a custom field instead of in the description so I can pull reports on emails that don't have subject lines or preheader text yet. I don't care about being able to manually resize them so much as having them display all the text contained in the field.

I agree also with the ability of the custom fields to resize or at least have the capability to display more characters than presently possible.  Unlimited custom fields is great; the ability to actually read what is populated in those fields is even better (I would have thought it a given).  Thank you!

Being able to see all of the content in the fields would be very helpful – especially when utilizing multi-select fields. There might be several additional items that aren't seen unless clicking – which is very time consuming and frustrating. Would love for it to just auto wrap and show all. Thanks!

We apreciate a lot if we could adapt the field´s size and see the complete information. Here an example of the difficulty:

I agree with most of the users.  On a custom field that is a pull down, I can only fit around 11 characters.  This is not a lot of room.  By having the option to increase the size would really help.

I agree - would be great to be able to resize the custom fields AND to also be able to sort the order in which they are displayed. Makes it easier to group the content that is being captured and displayed.

Additionally, would be great to have an "Info / Help" button next to each custom field that can be hovered over to provide an explanation of what information is required to be captured in each custom field.

100% agree here and glad to have found this thread.  I just posted a similar point re: using text-type custom fields:

https://help.wrike.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/new?community_post%5Btopic_id%5D=115000020349

Very glad to see so many other real-world Wrike fellow users using Custom Fields similarly!

In particular, @Paul Bushrow, I am using custom fields to try to mirror a functionality of Asana that Wrike doesn't have fully built-out - Project updates via a dedicated status/messaging area.  But when the "text" type field is so minimally visible, due to its sizing being reduced and not adjustable, this solution doesn't work too well.

Really hoping you guys can make this one happen soon!

I have not been able to convert our ticketing system over to Custom Fields to utilize the data in reporting because of this issue. I worry our team will not be able to consume all the necessary information for our tasks due to not being able to set a size to the field. Things will fall through the cracks.

We have requests come through our Wrike form that are paragraphs long with information we need to read through and confirm completion on and the lack of ability in Custom fields limits our ability to report on these requests.

Has the space for custom fields reduced more today? We used to see more of the text in these fields and now they are smaller and less text is visible. I'm only now seeing 9 characters which makes viewing data in custom fields very difficult. Can someone from the support team please let me know if there has been an update today that has made this issue worse?

The custom field is a hidden gem for Wrike but must be more flexible.

  • Resize is a must in order to increase efficiency for the user.
  • The ability to move a custom field box on list screen (currently Alpha order).
  • Would be nice to be able to group and organize custom fields.

I have more items on my wish list for custom fields but for now i will take the resize 😀.   PLEASE seeing the data entered is REALLY REALLY important.

Any updates on this request? I agree that this is a very important feature that is making wrike not so user friendly. We are planning to even move away from wrike when we need to discuss some projects among different teams. It is making it much harder

Can I please bump this thread for an update? Auto-expanding multi-line fields would be very useful in capturing technical notes related to a Task. We find ourselves having to append technical notes to the Description field, so it stays visible for the on-lookers.
