[Status: Launched! ๐] File Attachment Rename
A feature that would allow an Admin to rename file attachments would be great.ย It is hard to enforce file naming conventions across a large team, and project managers often need to rename file attachments so that they are searchable and relevant to the project.
ย
- This feature request ties to requests:
Move Attachments
and
List All File Attachments in a Project
I agree with this. We often name our files with a suffix: v1, v2, v3, etc. and upload each new version to Wrike on top of the previous version. If someone downloads the file, they'll see the correct version name, but the file listed in Wrike will always carry the v1 label. Would be nice to be able to remove that "v1" from the first version (which I guess we could do manually before upload) so that people aren't confused.
I agree with a feature to rename attachment files in a task. We have a template that has forms as attachments in many tasks.ย It would be great if we could rename these attachments within the task to make them easier to search.ย Otherwise, all the attachments will have the same name and make it difficult to search.ย I hope this gets on your product roadmap soon!
Just ran into this. Was creating a task, and pasting screenshots into the description (automatically adds it as a file attachment). I went to rename the screenshots to correspond withย steps I defined in the description (1., 2., 3., etc.) but am unable to rename attached images. Would be Nice to Have.
I agree with a feature to rename attached files. We (2 members) often alter filenames for various reasons and it confuses the team to see the original name despite the PDF having a revised filename. Certainly I could delete a proof, or remove it from view, and upload the PDF with a revised filename, but then we would lose the version history which is very important to us to retain.
Hey guys, thanks for your continued input here. I don't have an update for you, but I'll get back to you here when/if I have news on this one.ย

Yes, this would be a useful feature. One vote from me.ย
For the same reason as Chris, I was looking for an easy way to rename the attached files, so we wouldn't have to rename & re-upload. Just to save a little time for these pesky screenshots.
It is absolutely necessary feature. How come you haven't done this yet? We have a teem of 20 and it is impossible to follow a task where a dozen of files attached.ย
Yes please.ย A type in the filename for version 1 carries through to all future versions.ย Please provide a way to rename files.
Adding my vote for this very important feature update. I'm hopeful there will be traction on this soon! Thank you in advance.
Definitely need this feature! We need to send attachments/files to clients - and like to re-name our working files to more relevant titles before sending- right now having to download them and then re-name them and then re-upload is getting silly and very time consuming.
Adding my vote for this very important feature update. I'm hopeful there will be traction on this soon as we need to be able to rename our working files before we send to clients quickly & efficiently. Many thanks in advance.ย
Adding my vote for this important feature update. This feature would certainly same a lot of time and we would see a significant impact on our productivity in a positive way. I'm hopeful there will be traction on this soon as we need to be able to rename our working files before we send to clients quickly & efficiently. Thank you!!!ย
Yes, this feature would definitely help to make our day to day work quicker and more efficient. Definitely including my vote for this update!
Adding my vote for this very important feature update. This is a critical feature on how we manage our projects Thanks for the possibility of fast-tracking the addition of this feature.
This functionality is crucial in our day to day operational needs. Fingers crossed we can get this over the line as soon as possible to improve productivity. Thanks!ย
Absolutely need this feature rather then having to upload a new version with a different name. This feature has my vote!
ย
Agree. Need a feature to right click on the file and simply hit 'Rename'.
Alternative is to be able to Save As a different name and have it uploaded into Wrike. Right now, that option saves it to an unknown and undisplayed location.
Currently I have to edit the file, save it under a different name, save it to an easy location, find the file, and upload it as a new version in Wrike--way too many steps!
Agree - this feature is greatly needed!!ย
My team utilizes the Blueprints feature fairly often to handle form approval routing reoccurring tasks, but since the file is always named the same, having a Files widget is fairly pointless and it takes away from the usability of Wrike as a comprehensive tool for our team.ย
PLEASE allow the file rename to be a feature!!ย ๐ค
Hi everyone! Thank you so much for all the feedback that you've provided here! I have exciting news for you - our Product team are planning to develop this feature in 2020! Please stay tuned for more updatesย ๐

I was really surprised that I can't even rename attachments! Like other users here, I'm trying to benefit from the great ability to paste screenshots of mockups etc but it's useless having loads of images called "image002995435345.png" - why can't I edit the name to something useful? I also can't reference to a specific attached image when I'm on a task
Hi Luke Flegg, thank you for the feedback! It's been passed on to the Product team.
This is needed.ย I am using a Blueprint that creates a Project when the Project request form is generated.ย There is an initial document that the originator must complete so I attach a template of the document in the blueprint.ย That way, the user simply goes into the project, opens the attached template, edits it in Wrike and saves it back to the project.ย This is done to improve the process by making sure the user has the latest template (managed by the administrator via the blueprint attachment, makes it quicker for the originator to get to work on the form, and keeps the forms tracked within Wrike.ย The problems is, I need them to change the name from template to the project name.ย Now, I have multiple projects with the document names all the same template name and no way to change them.
I see that this request is two years old already and no activity.ย Since you don't provide a roadmap showing what and when features will be added, I have no choice but to revert to manual means of doing additional work by the admin for every template document that is needed in any given project.ย That is, they can't be automatically loaded or that will invite users getting the documents mixed up since they will all have the same file names.ย Blueprints is a great feature but these kinds of limitation really detract from its usability.
I will add this to the growing list of missing, incomplete, and ineffectively implemented features that make Wrike much less than it could be.ย Wrike shows a lot of promise but with features being needed for years and not being added it has a long way to go.ย Simply saying the requests are being passed on to the Product team does nothing for your user community.ย This one was passed on to the Product team two years ago.
