[Status: Backburner ⏳] Recurring Tasks Improvements
Apologies if these are listed elsewhere - I have searched!
We're having a number of 'issues' with recurring tasks - we use them frequently across Wrike. Definitely into the hundreds, already created.
The biggest issue I have is the creator of tasks and the fact that when the user is downgraded, the recurrence stops. When staff leave, we downgrade them - but I cannot lose the tasks or spend the time recreating them. So we need a way of transferring ownership, or easily amending the recurrence.
This is now causing me big issues - I have no idea how many tasks I need to recreate (see below), but it's at least 50. I don't have this time.
I would also love:
- An easy way to change the status of the task, if set up incorrectly for the recurrence. Currently I have to amend the task, delete the recurrence, change the status then recreate the recurrence!
- A way to identify just recurring tasks - with some sort of filter/search etc. Having to look for the circular arrow just doesn't work
- Switch off inbox notifications for recurring tasks - it fills the inbox up with useless info as the task will clearly be listed on dashboard/My Work
Hope this all makes sense.
Additional to the way to identify recurring tasks, the circular arrow icon only shows up in list view. Why doesn't it show up in Table view and some indication in Gantt view? It should show this property in all views so you can tell when viewing the entire project what tasks are recurring.
I am visiting the online community for the first time. My thought was that there MUST be some way to get a list of recurring tasks so that it can be monitored and / or edited and that I was just not finding it. But it seems there is not yet a way to do that? Is this something that is in the works?
Hi everyone! Thank you so much for sharing your feedback here!
I've checked with the team, and they aren't planning to introduce any changes in regards to recurring tasks in the short-term. At the same time, once they come back to them, they'll be definitely looking at what you've suggested here. I'll get back here once there are any updates.

We just ran into the issue with downgraded accounts as well. When I first noticed it, I was hoping that the new feature to transfer items to another user while deleting a user would take care of it, but I have been told by our Wrike customer success manager that the new process doesn't cover recurring tasks.
This was one of the main reasons we were not deleting users to begin with. It would be great if that process could also address recurring tasks.
However, the other options here would be immensely helpful as well. Being able to filter and search for recurring tasks as well as not auto-follow them would be helpful when managing recurring tasks.
Thanks for your input, Joshua Balentine!

+1 for a better way of identifying all recurring tasks.
Our team uses the Calendar and Recurring Tasks feature to plan compliance and maintenance tasks out in advance. Often these events happen quarterly or annually and 99% of the time are closed, so going back to find and edit them is challenging/impossible.
It would be really handy if there were something like a tab within spaces where you could view all recurring tasks, here's an example of what I mean:
I agree with Andy, having a way to easily find and manage Recurring Tasks would be very helpful.
Hi Andy Dustin, thank you for sharing this example! It's been passed on to the team.
And thank you for your input as well, Jason Pontius! If you have any other questions, be sure to let me know.
This is a huge pain point for our team as well! We had a number of employees furloughed, so we downgraded their status for legal reasons, however, many of the recurrences that the remainder of the team relies on did not continue recurring. We have lost a great efficiency here and are having to spend hours manually going through each task and ensuring the recurrence continues so no tasks are missed. We need a way around this!
Additionally, I agree that a way to mass update recurrences without ending the recurrence, editing, then rescheduling the recurrence would be a huge benefit. Whenever we make a small text change, date change or assignee change - it takes a lot of extra effort to update all of our hundreds of recurring tasks.
We are having to re-think our recurrence task strategy, because it's just not working in it's current state.
Thank you for sharing your input here, Laura Walz! It's been sent to the Product team.
How can I find all my recurring tasks? I have no idea whats there and I don't want to remake them. I tried Calendar, Reports and Dashboards. I guess I have to use another tool like Excel to list them in so I know what I put in Wrike. I am in health care and we have over 100 recurring tasks, some are licensing renewals which are very important and it sucks that there is not a view that will just list them all (that I can find).
Hey Ryan Winchester, and welcome to the Community!
While it is possible to recognize a recurring task by looking for the symbol beside a task, it is currently not possible to show all recurring tasks in the workspace in one view. Thank you for sharing your use case here, it's been passed on to the Product team. If there are any updates to share in relation to this request, I'll be sure to let you know.
Is there still no way to identify recurring reports other than the little symbol next to the name?
Hi Alex Peters, welcome to the forums! 🤗
You're correct, the recurring task symbol identifies such tasks.

We use Wrike to track all of the maintenance activities to our tools and systems and there is zero visibility on recurring tasks but we need a way to view of all the recurring tasks in a space. It would be great if you could add recurring tasks to a calendar when setting up the recurrence. Then you can have a calendar (day, month, week, quarter, year) view of what recurring task is set to pop up when. You can currently add recurring tasks to a calendar but you have to to do it for every single task and we have a lot so it's not really feasible. We also don't create tasks upfront as this impacts our capacity planning.
Thank you for sharing your feedback Leila van Zyl, I've passed it on to our Product team 👍🏼
I agree - I spent a long time looking bc it seemed obvious that of course there would be a way to just see recurring tasks. I have to add my team to the list of people looking for this functionality!
Thanks, Laura Decoster, welcome to the Community 🙂
We appreciate you taking the time to share your input here and we've passed this on to the team. If we have any news/updates to share on this suggestion, we'll be sure to let you know 👍

Hello, what is the status of these requests? I am in the same situation as Andy Dustin.
Hi Claudel Therrien, thank you for chiming in here.
Improving Recurring Tasks is something the Product Team has been paying close attention to and they have plans to review it in the future, but it's currently not on their roadmap so I have no concrete information to share at this point. There is a very similar thread that you can follow in the Community.
I'll post back here once I have more information to share 👍
Am I the only one that is really tired of hearing "not on the roadmap"? Seems like every feedback that I follow is in this same state. 2 1/2 years on these minor requests and we're still being told not on the roadmap. I have stopped posting feedback and requests because it is a waste of my time. They never get addressed.
Wrike, you guys disappoint.
I'm sorry you're disappointed, Jason Pontius! As I've just mentioned to you in this thread, our team can't work on all Community suggestions, unfortunately. At the same time, some very popular ideas do get implemented (you can check out the list of such ideas for 2021 here), so sharing your feedback can help get your idea on the Product roadmap.
Please rest assured that all the feedback you've shared has been passed on to the team for consideration.

The example that Andy Dustin shared would be very beneficial to my team.
Thank you Emily Lillya for chiming in here🙌🏼
We had that issue once and then decided to make a user called accounting assistant. IT gave us an email. So, when the accounting assistant leaves, we just change the user name and password. We use recurring quite a bit and now we are closing the books early. A drawback is we will have to go edit the recurrences to make our tasks recur early. It will be a lot of time to edit all these.
I am also looking for recurring task improvements. Our team uses recurrences a lot and when a user from a specific team leaves, we have to go through a really tedious process of identifying the recurrences that users set up and then recreating them. Ideally I'd love to be able to transfer the authorship of the recurrence to another user before deactivating, as well as an easy way to pull a report of active tasks that have recurrences set up. This is something that our team is hoping for an update on so we don't have to do this manual process every time someone leaves.
Yes, please!!!
This is still a need for us too. In the meantime, all recurring tasks are created in the same "project", so we can keep track of them. It's far from elegant, but it works.
Hi everyone, thank you all for taking the time to share your feedback here. We'll be sure to let you know if we have any updates in relation to recurring tasks🙋🏻♀️
I would love to see some improvements with recurring tasks! My top areas for improvement are
