[Status: Launched! 🚀(in Wrike Labs)] Prevent Automatic Rescheduling of Tasks When Using the Work Scheduling Feature
We currently do not use the work scheduling feature. We love the new Wrike Resourcing tool and are implementing it now. In order for that tool to be as accurate as possible we need to start using the work scheduling feature.
Our company has two days off next week for Thanksgiving. All due dates currently set in Wrike already took that into account. If I add the two days as a company holiday over 1,000 tasks in Wrike will have their due dates pushed out by 2 days and they will all have to be manually reset.
We often have employees request last minute PTO. We usually grant these requests with the caveat that since we are granting a last minute request for PTO they must still meet their current due dates and they will not be moved. If we put that PTO in work scheduling their due dates will be moved anyway.
The automatic feature is nice, and I can see many instances where it will be helpful, but users should NEVER be forced into automatic task rescheduling, it should be an option. This is also an issue with task dependencies. We currently do not use this feature because of the nature of our projects often require us to move a single task due date without wanting to change subsequent task due dates. We would really like to use dependencies but it is too much of a hassle because of this.
Automatic features are good but should never be mandatory. This should be considered in all current and future design as a best practice.
HI,
Similar to Dax, we also have users requesting vacation but have deadlines that can't be pushed. It would be nice to have an option to be able to check a 'don't reschedule tasks' box.
Thanks
Todd
This is a great idea that should be implemented.
I agree. It would be ideal for us if when people enter their time off, it does NOT move any tasks that person is assigned to. Rather, Wrike would flag those tasks where there is a conflict so that someone (typically it would be a manager or PM for us, rather than the person assigned the task) can see them (via a report, dashboard, and/or notification) and decide whether to move or reassign them.
This is perhaps the most important feature we need to have, ASAP. Our deadlines as a company are fixed because they are communicated to client. When vacations happen, they do not affect dates (though they would affect workload). Essentially, we need vacation and out of office scheduling to automatically reflect in workload BUT NOT in deadline changes. The workaround to un-click "working days only" on the task level is impossible, because do so then shifts deadlines the other way as weekends are suddenly included.
So, to second, rescheduling deadlines MUST be optional. The alternative makes Wrike nearly unusable for its main purpose: tracking delivery against dates.
We need this feature, at a global (account) level, as well. Another vote from us!
I'm just putting in another plug for this. Our business is unable to use this feature because our due dates are not driven by individuals' work schedules. Because of this, our people are either forced to navigate to a calendar we have set up using a request form or (more often) go outside of Wrike to see whether someone is out of the office. Typically this doesn't happen until someone has been nonresponsive to @-messages for a while.
What Eric said. Our business has hundreds of users with rigid deadlines. If an individual can't complete a task, their backup jumps in to help them out. However, no one knows to contact the backup because we can't use this feature as designed. Being out of the office shouldn't automatically shift dates.
By not having OOO mesages in Wrike, without pushing deadlines and making a mess of our fulfilment processes, vacations only mean a return to a firestorm of tasks and unhappy clients. I agree with Martin, Eric and Peter and just this entire thread.
Hey everybody, thank you for all of your feedback and use cases here! They help our Product team when discussing possible new features. I don't have an update for you at the moment, but as soon as I do, I'll let you know 😊
Hey there,
I totally agree with this thread. We mostly work based on deadlines for tasks communicated to the client. The fact that the tasks reschedule automatically once the person in charge is on holiday, makes the tool useless for keeping track of the project schedule. There is always the need to re-adjust the schedule once a team member is on holidays. There is quite some displeasure with Wrike in the project management team with regard to this problem.
Hey Marcela Knapp, thanks for adding your insight here, this is really useful and we've passed it on to the Product team. We don't have any updates to share here at the moment, but if that changes we'll be sure to update the thread.
If you need any further assistance, or if you have any other questions let me know.

I agree with all the above comments – this is one of the most frustrating features on Wrike as a project management tool for us and it'd be great to have it added to the product development list.
Totally agree. The worst thing about it is it pushes deadlines back instead of flagging them or at very least moving them forward so deadlines aren't missed. It would be SO helpful for this not to happen to all our tasks/subtasks every time we book in time off.
Hello Laura Thomas, Hayley Tearall, welcome to the Community👋🏻
Thank you both for sharing your feedback, I've passed it on to our Product team. Please upvote the original post and if there are any updates I'll be sure to let you know 😊
Adding my vote here, can't use the feature as it currently functions.
Thank you for supporting here Austin Headley 🙌

This is a MUST HAVE! If an employee marks PTO time, it reschedules 30+ tasks. It looks like this may have been a function at one time: https://help.wrike.com/hc/en-us/articles/1500005120981-Disabling-Automatic-Task-Rescheduling but they say to go to Wrike Labs and disable it, but there is nothing in Wrike Labs to disable this feature.
If the functionality to NOT reschedule doesn't exist as of today, is there a way we can prevent users from getting to the calendar? That would be a fix for the short term.
I couldn't agree more. I like Ashley's question above regarding an option to turn off the ability to block working days. So many projects and resource planning activities have been derailed because of this.
Hello Ashley Fischer, Holly Anderson thank you for posting and your feedback. It's been passed on to the team.
Ashley, the reason why it's not available on your Wrike Labs is it's a feature that could only be enabled for the entire account. Therefore, please contact your Account Owner for enabling the feature. Please let me know if you have any other questions.
I'd love to see this feature added as well. We've experienced tasks/milestones being rescheduled due to vacation time that people (not even associated with the project!) have entered.
My vacation time shouldn't have an impact on projects I'm not associated with.
Hi everyone! Could you please check out the screenshot below:
This is an experimental feature available to account admins and owners in Wrike Labs, and I think using it can help resolve the suggestion here. Please let me know what you think!

I enabled that a couple weeks ago and am very happy about it :)
This is good to know, but I don't think we would implement it across the entire account. It would be nice to be able to disable for a specific project, blueprint or calendar.
The part about public holidays does give me some pause. If a company holiday is already on the books at the time that a task is scheduled or rescheduled, will the dates still adjust around that if this feature is enabled? (I am not an admin but have encouraged my admins to take a look.)
Thank you for your additional feedback here 🤗
Eric Prindle, I've asked my colleagues from the Support team to look into your question, they will be reaching out to you on this 👍

Thank you, Lisa!! This is a very helpful solution. Appreciate you letting us know!
Hi Eric Prindle,
That's a great question you asked regarding public holidays on the work schedule.
With the "Disable automatic task rescheduling" feature enabled, adding a new public holiday to the work schedule won't shift any of your scheduled tasks.
But if you already have public holidays on the work schedule, these still appear as "non-working" days when scheduling tasks, so you won't be able to schedule a task to start or end on these dates unless the "working days only" box is unchecked in the date picker:
Let us know if you have further questions and have a productive day! 😃
