Blocking people from completing the project before the tasks are done.

So we work a lot with projects in the organisation and it sometimes happens that people will put the project on completed without putting the tasks on completed. This is a bummer since I am working with the automation function that needs all the tasks to be completed. If that is the case it will change the status of the project to the next stage before it can be completed. So that is why it would be nice to have something that can prevent people form not completing the tasks.

I also need this functionality. We have custom field data that is required to be completed on specific tasks but some individuals are just marking the project as completed without completing each sub task. Is there a way to prevent this from happening? Essentially, I'd like to not allow individuals to mark a project as completed if there are tasks in an active status.

Thank you for supporting this suggestion and for sharing your feedback here. At the moment, there is no built-in option to technically block users from completing a project while there are still active tasks or missing custom field data.
 
As a workaround, you can use Access Roles. For example, create a custom access role called “Team Member – No Project Complete.” In that role, remove the permission to change project status (or limit it to project owners/PMs only). This way, regular users will only be able to change task statuses, not the overall project.
