Recurring Task
I read in a few help strings some of the feedback on recurring tasks. I understand why they do not show up in the timeline until one day before, but I believe that is a preference that is quite personal. My team, for example, prefers to see the recurring task in the long term schedule so they can plan their work load and schedules around it. Can it be made an option to display as many recurrences as a user designates?
Thank you,
Leigh
I upvote this as well.
Also, I noticed that when you pin a recurring task to My Work, the subsequent tasks don't automatically pin. I always want these to show up in My Work, so having to do it every individual task is an annoyance.
Hi guys, when you set up the recurrent task the option is available to see a certain amount up front at any given time. Take a look below and let me know if this helps 👍
We have been trying this by setting a weekly recurring task with "create upfront" set to 4. The idea is to have 1 month (4 weeks) of tasks always visible so that we can allocate time in advance properly. However, once those first 4 "create upfront" tasks are completed, they are gone. The remaining recurring tasks only generate the day before they are due (awfully short notice).
Ideally, if you had "create upfront" set to 4, Wrike would auto-generate the next one in the chain as the one at the front was completed. Always keeping 4 tasks open and creating the buffer we are trying to achieve. This seems like the way it SHOULD work but doesn't. Are we missing something?
i agree with Aaron Pinto. i would expect the number of tasks that are created "upfront" to remain constant even as you complete tasks. so if you ask to create 4 recurring tasks upfront, when you mark the first one as completed another automatically appears at the end so that there are still 4 recurring incomplete tasks on the calendar. if it didn't work this way, what would be the point of creating "upfront" other than being a short term solution?
Wrike team, have there been any updates on this? I'm finding this particularly challenging when trying to manage the team's forecasted time in the Workload tab. We have daily scrums, as well as weekly client meetings that I need to account for in my team's resourcing and having only the tasks showing for Today and Tomorrow in a recurring set isn't very helpful for managing these forecasts.
Thanks!
Similarly, our team uses recurring tasks for weekly meetings and we would like to be able to add topics to the meeting agenda as soon as the prior meeting is marked as complete. Can we set up the recurring task to be created as soon as the prior task is marked complete but continue with the due date set for the regular weekly schedule?
I am having the same issue. Selecting "Create Upfront" does not give visibility to future recurrences. Wrike team, can you please make this possible as soon as possible? Or let us know what we are missing here?
Hey guys, thanks for sharing your feedback here. For now it works as Stephen described - you can create a number of tasks upfront, but it's not possible to set it so that a new task is created when the one prior to it is marked "completed". Your feedback on this is passed to our Product team and I'll get back to you here when I have news. Thanks!

For some reason, I can not get any recurring tasks to show up on my timeline. What am I doing wrong?
@Jessie Hey, happy to see you on the Community 🙂 Recurring tasks that are created upfront should be visible on the Gantt Chart. I can see that those tasks occur once a month, so maybe you can move forward to see them:
Please let me know if that helps 👐

It showed up a few minutes after I made that comment. I guess I just wasn't patient enough. It seems to be working now!
@Jessie glad to hear that 🙂 If you have any other questions, you know what to do 😎

I completely agree with some of these comments that if you choose Create Upfront for say 4 iterations, it should always maintain the upcoming 4 tasks. We have some recurring tasks that hit every 2 weeks, but we have no insight into them until the pop up right before they are due. We would much prefer to have foresight into the upcoming recurring tasks, having them always show the next 4 tasks, or whatever the quantity chosen is.
Without this, the tasks don't show up which makes recurrence almost useless. If you create a single task, you see it in the project and on the schedule. But if you create a recurrent task, it doesn't show up until it is due. This is not helpful. You can't see or plan for tasks that don't show up.
At the very least, the next task should show up as soon as the current one is completed so you always see the next one that is due.
Please consider modifying this behavior to be more useful.
Thank you.
I agree with these comments as well - I either want to specify the # instances that should be created at any one point in time (rather than just the beginning) or the # days ahead of time the new instance should be created. Either would be fine and would make recurring tasks much more useful.
Hey everyone, thank you for all of the feedback here! It's been passed on to the Product team.
I don't have an update for you at the moment in regards to the status of this suggestion. If anything changes, I'll be sure to let you know.
I set up a recurring event (10 weekly meetings) and see it within Wrike, but I only see the first event/meeting in my google calendar, not the last 9. Any thoughts?
Thank you!
Heather
Heather Borders Recurring tasks only get created just before the next event, so you will only see the next instance of the task in your calendar.
1) I am using the maximum upfront tasks of 60 events so that I can see as far ahead as the program will let me. Once event #1 has occurred, a new occurrence #60 is automatically created to keep it going, which is good. What I don't like is now any further creation of this occurrence is being "piecemealed" into my inbox. I don't need to be notified that I've been assigned to event that is going to happen way down the road...the recurrence is for my long-term visibility, not immediate attention. Is there something to this I can do differently?
2) Can a recurring task be set to automatically change status to complete once the date has passed?
3) Can the recurring task be not associated with "weekly, monthly, etc" but instead always having one "open"...so that a a new one will generate once one has been marked complete? For example, if the task represents an inventory item that needs to be reordered, can a new one generate after marking as ordered...without a deadline or more occurrence being created until that one is done?
Tonya Murphy These are interesting case scenarios. I think they would be great examples for the Automation feature which is in Beta. The concept of triggering actions is the basis of Automation, so for example, when a task is marked complete, a new task is created.
Creating a new task is not currently an action in the automation rules, but since it is still in Beta, this could be an example of something they could add. There is already the trigger of when a task is marked completed. They just need to add the action of creating a new task from a blueprint.
What is the status of recurring tasks functional update? As said above, we would prefer the next task be created immediately upon completion of the current task.

Hi everyone, thank you for sharing your feedback and use cases here. They've been passed on to the Product team.
Tonya Murphy, it currently is not possible to change when you are notified of recurring tasks in Wrike. It is also currently not possible to complete a task automatically following its due date or to create a new one automatically, but the team does have plans to add support for these in the future. If there is any new information here, I'll be sure to let you know.
If you have any other questions, feel free to reach out to me at any time.

I'm realy curious if these suggestions are in the new experience?
Welcome to the Community Kim Meinders 🤗
It's not available in the New Wrike Experience, but the team is aware of this suggestion.

What is the status of recurring tasks functional update? This is a feature we really need at my company. Without this feature being fixed, we will likely switch to a new system that does handle recurring tasks and show them on a calendar in advance of that day.
Hi Susan Bailey, welcome to the Community!
Could you please specify the recurring tasks' functionality that you're missing in Wrike? There are several suggestions here on the Community related to the recurring tasks, and although I don't have an update here on this thread, I'll be soon asking for updates in other threads, so please let me know 👍

Hi Lisa, Thanks!
I will use an example of paydays. i put in the first payday this Friday May 14th. I then added the recurrence of once every 2 weeks, and changed the create upfront to 60. When I look at the calendar, it only shows the 14th. The recurrence will not show at all.
What I was hoping for is that the upfront recurrences 'roll' each time that the date reaches the next recurrence date. So I would always have 'x' # of tasks in front of me, for as long as the recurrence is active (right now the upfront recurrence ends after the x # of tasks designated have been reached). The reason is that we like to see what is on our team's plates each Monday for the week. Many of those tasks are single-day, weekly activities. If I create the task to recur on Thursday, it doesn't show up on my team's to-do until Thursday (not an accurate reflection of their workload when I look at it on Monday). So by creating the rolling recurrence, I always have the next few week's recurring activities sitting on my team's workload each week/month I review. Hopefully that is not a unique need for just our team and is something that Wrike can address (also open to suggestions for workarounds for this, besides recreating the tasks each week manually).
Susan Bailey Recurring tasks can be displayed on the calendars. Please check out these screenshots:
You can see that my recurring "Blog 3" tasks are represented on the calendar. Could you make sure that on your calendar layer setting, the "Include tasks from subfolders" option is checked?
Jack Allen Thank you for your detailed use-case here! Have you considered using Wrike Resource functionality for workload management?

Lisa I am currently using Wrike Resource in a trial-fashion, and this missing feature (ability for Wrike to autopopulate recurring tasks for the week with a start date and due date on a Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday/Friday without me being able to see it when we review team workload on Monday mornings) may end up causing us not to use the Wrike Resource add-on. If there is another way to be able to do this with Wrike Resource I'm all-ears but we've tried many different approaches to achieve this solution with no luck.
Hi Jack Allen, I can see that you've had a discussion with our Support team on this.
Please let me know if I can help you with anything else 👍
