Allow character limits on Text custom fields

Currently text fields are not restricted in size (that I am aware of). 

It would be great if text fields could be defined with a maximum character limit specified, or at least some basic options such as small, medium, large, and unrestricted.

I would agree with this! I have recently made one of my paragraph questions required and some of my co-workers just hit the space bar or a period.

As you may already know, there is no character limit for text custom fields, as mentioned in this article. Nonetheless, your suggestion to define a maximum character limit will be forwarded to the Product Team. If there's any progress in the future, I'll be sure to let you know 👍

This would be a great enhancement!  We've integrated Wrike and SFDC and one of the fields we've integrated has a character limit in SFDC but we're unable to set those same restrictions in Wrike.  If a user makes an update to that custom field in Wrike above and beyond the character limit the integration breaks down.  Will be sure to keep an eye out for future progress on this!
