Rescheduling Projects
I know the option to duplicate and reschedule a project very well and use and like it a lot.
I have a master template for a project that I use to create around 10 projects per year from duplicates. So far so good.
What I (and obviously other users) am/are missing is the option to reschedule (move) an EXISTING project.
The situation is as follows: If I have about 10 duplicates from my template over roundabout a year it gives me an overview how each is maybe connected to an event or I can take national holidays in consideration and so on. And if I recognize some overlapping or whatever I just want to move a project - like possible while duplicating - by first or last task, milestone … whatever.
I read about the mass actions but these are not that comfortable to use and just for tasks within a project.
I wonder what it makes it so difficult to provide the same functionality that exists for duplicates to reschedules (moves)?!?
Beside the option to duplicate projects while rescheduling and deleting the previous one my only idea for a workaround is to use a different tool (calendar, what else) to first plan all projects exactly by their start or end dates and then duplicate my template. But could this really be the only way in a project management???
And what about if a complete project needs to be shifted completely for whatever reason? Moving all tasks separately? While the subtasks are not being moved initially? Honestly no.
Thanks!
I have the same issue. I simply want to shift an entire project. I can't find a good way to do that. I only see how to shift task by task, which is only reasonable for small projects, but not large projects with many subtasks. This seems like such a common need, there must be an easy way to shift an entire project. Any advise?
Hi Hans-Peter and Jeremy, apologies for the delay in response here.
Would Project Roll-Up help with this use case? With this, all items within a project will be rescheduled to the latest possible date in the project. This would help align your tasks and subtasks after rescheduling the project.
Let me know if this helps!
Hi Hugh,
thanks for your hint. In my case it didn't help. I have tasks with subtasks and on some of the tasks I have been asked if the subtasks should be actualized and in some not. Also, my latest activity in the project is a milestone which didn't move at all. It looks pretty messy now.
Also I supposed to set a new start date for one of the first tasks and expected the movement of the whole project. It also didn't work, it was the task 01: Beitrag… and the result is seen in the screenshot. I then tried to move one task in the Gantt view which led to the shown result.
I would like to see the exact functionality of rescheduling with project duplicates for active projects. Either in a dialog like on duplicates or within the Gantt chart moving the whole project like it is possible with tasks. This would be fast and easy. Everything else seems to be too complicated.
Thanks!
Hi Hans-Peter,
Thank you for sharing this use case and the further detail, I've passed this on to the Product team. I don't have an update about this suggestion at the moment; if there is any new information here, I'll be sure to let you know.
If you need anything else in the meantime, feel free to reach out at any time.
Is there any update to this issue? I'm facing the same problem right now where I need to duplicate an existing project and rescheudle the duplicate out by ~18months. The "reschedule" to "end Date" doesn't work for this. It's over 600 tasks long and not feasible to do them one by one. This needs a solution.
Hi Mark,
indeed this seems to be a different issue. Because from my experience rescheduling in combination with duplicating projects work reliable. I have pretty small projects compared to what you wrote so maybe this is an additional criteria.
My focus in this thread is on just moving existing projects entirely as described above. And obviously there is still no solution.
