It would be ideal to be able to override the default Project statuses with Custom statuses (much like you can do with tasks).

Any news on when custom project status will be available?

The feature is expected to be rolled out to all accounts by the start of Q3.
I'm going to close this thread for comments now as there is a very similar one with lots of votes and use-cases there. I'll update that thread when the feature is released.
