Minimize to tray

Just a wishlist comment. It would be nice if the Windows desktop app would minimize/close to the system tray. Makes for a cleaner workspace, thanks.

Hi Alexander welcome to the forums 👍 ! When I minimize the desktop app it disappears to the docking station with all my other apps, I think you're talking about minimizing to a different tray?

In Windows, the bottom right of the task bar (where the clock is) is often referred to as the system tray.  I am referring to all the icons that are grouped with the clock (volume, networks status, etc.)  Most apps that need to be on constantly have a function to go there so they don’t occupy the same space as your currently open apps.

@Alexander That description was great, thank you so much! We're passing this on to the team and we'll make sure to post here if we have an update.

I think the more important aspect of minimizing to the system tray would be to run Wrike as a background process for the purpose of receiving desktop notifications even if the application is not running in the foreground.  Sort of like how messenger platforms (i.e. Skype for Business) are always running so you can receive a message, but don't clutter up your foreground activities and task bar when you aren't using it.

Please do this. This is one of the reasons Slack is so useful. I don't want to have Wrike always open, but by putting it in the system tray, I can get updates (not emails) immediately when there is a new item to deal with.

I always close Wrike because it is annoying to have as a full icon in the task bar. It takes up mental work space for nothing. If it was in the system tray, it would be out of the way, but still active and useful when there are notifications. I'm surprised this was not included from the start, it's a basic UI/UX decision for modern apps. Mainly because not doing this is a major annoyance to users.

Just look at Slack (not Skype) and copy what they did.

Came to help forums looking for the same.  "Minimize/Close to system tray icon" option would be really nice.

Still waiting for "Minimize/Close to system tray" function. ☹️😤

I'm surprised this still isn't a function of the desktop app!  😑😵

It doesn't seem like there have been many updates on the desktop app software; the settings menu is extremely limited, having literally four options in total:

It would be nice to see a major update release sometime in the near future!

The simple inability to minimize the app to the Windows system tray makes me wonder why I don't just use the web app instead, since my browser is usually always open anyway!

I also ended up here while searching for this feature. This would be a great addition to the desktop app.

Hi everyone, apologies for the delay in response here.

There are currently no plans to allow the desktop app to minimize to the system tray in Windows. If anything changes, I'll be sure to let you know.
