Integrating with billing and accounting

Has anyone here had use cases where the Wrike time tracking has been integrated with external billing systems? We are using a region-specific system, however, it would be similar to systems like SAP.

Our current situation is two-fold.
1. We need to be able to assign projects/tasks to a certain ID, project in our billing system, so data from the billing system needs to be selectable and queryable from Wrike. This is a nice-to-have case, as in the worst case the ID can be punched manually by the PM or Stakeholder

2. Exporting the data and transforming it to match the billing system, I would think would be more straightforward, as it just requires us to connect to the data API and request and transform it to match the billing system input API.

The question is, has anyone done integrations like this before and is willing to share their stories? Success or failure 😅

Thank you Lisa I appreciate you for letting me know of this, unfortunately, we are looking for related to our system TripleTex or some experience with setting up integrations to other accounting and billing systems that have not been an pre developed integration. As the likelihood of an integration have been made with our specific system is highly unlikely, but again never zero

Thomas Won Nyheim this use case has been done before, including by me. At the end of the day it all depends on the use case. In general transforming the data is not hard since at the end of the day a timelog is a simple object. But here are some tips

  • as you noted, you will need to find a way to determine how to map projects between systems
  • perhaps the hardest and most important aspect is to figure out the method for getting the right set of timelogs. the timelog API endpoint has exportStatus that you can set and read, so set when you export and process those that are not yet exported
  • you will also need to determine when to export? is it on regular basis or dependent on what happens in a project?
  • do you need to deal with a situation that a user changed a timelog after you exported it? if so, you will also need to be able to map time entries between the two systems
  • with the new timesheet approvals in labs you can now use it and there is also an approval status field you can use in the API to determine what timelogs to export
