Blueprints: Dynamic linking within blueprints
When creating a larger blueprint structure for projects it can sometimes be divided into multiple stages and teams.
(simplified example of structure)
1. Planning - PL + Design team + Dev team
- sub task 1
- sub task 2
2. Design - Design team
- sub task 3
- sub task 4
3. Development - Dev team
- sub task 5
- sub task 6
4. Testing - QA team
- sub task 7
- sub task 8
5. Implementation - CM team
- sub task 9
- sub task 10
6. Deployment - Operations team
- sub task 11
- sub task 12
At the end we currently have added a checklist of tasks (in writing, not linked) to the different sub-tasks so that we can check wether or not all tasks that are needed throughout the process for finalizing a deployment to make sure we don't miss steps.
It would be very nice if this task was able to automatically get the correct links from the current blueprint structure. Today it just ends up linking to the blueprint task if tried. If they were to be linked it would be possible to check their status by the status tag next to their linked name to quickly see if it has been completed. Do note that multiple of these stages/ teams uses different workflows, so it's not always the easiest to create reports/ dashboards for this.
I'm sure there is possible to create a custom dashboard to deal with this, but we enjoy having a checklist or similar to check if all we need to remember has been done for each project.
I'm not sure if this is the same thing as what you are talking about, but just the other day I was wishing that links set up in blueprints would update when a project was created with that blue print. My example is when changes are made on packaging, we eventually need a new image of that product (which often has more than one component). After I create the project I have to manually go in and put these links in so that I can see when both items are available for photos.
I'd love to be able just have links in the blue print that link to the packaging task in the blue print instead of having to create these each time.
Thank you for sharing your use case here Robin Hayes! I think it's similar to what Thomas is suggesting here 👍

Hello everyone,
In my company, we have the same issue. Dynamic links between tasks and/or projects in a blueprint would be great!
That would allow us to create task descriptions like "Please check your notes from task 2c, before starting this task." ...with a direct link to task 2c 😍
Though I am not a developer I can imagine this could be hard to implement, but from a user perspective it would be very helpful.
Thanks a lot for reaching out and sharing your thoughts here Wiebke Willems 🙌 This suggestion is passed on to the Product team 👍

Hi everyone !
yes please, we also need this feature to get the correct links from blueprint projects in the destination projects.
😀

Yes! I would love dynamic links within blueprints. When I create a project from a blueprint with permalinks in the tasks, I don't want to link back to the blueprint's tasks, I want to link to the newly generated tasks created from the blueprint.

Thank you for supporting this suggestion. We'll be adding a Product status here once the idea gets 60 upvotes 👍

Hi everyone, a quick update from the team - dynamic links to tasks in the Blueprint description is now released🎉
Thank you all for supporting this suggestion and sharing your feedback!
WOOOOOOHOOOOO! Thanks!
@... That sounds promising, thank you very much!
Just to be clear: will the dynamic links only be available in the blueprint description, or is it possible to add them in the descriptions of tasks and/or projects in a blueprint?
Wiebke Willems I just tested this out now, and I created a permalink for a sub-task in the task description itself. When the blueprint is used, it will create links to the newly created tasks rather than the blueprint task as it did before.
Wiebke Willems You can add them anywhere and it will just work correctly!
The project was created through a request form. The blueprint has dynamic links. The links in the project that was created from the request form link back to the blueprint, not to the links they're supposed to go to in the project.
It works when I just create a project from the blueprint, but not when it's created through the request form. :(
I can confirm this does nor work via request forms.
It is the same problem we have to get "not active statuses" of tasks via Blueprints.
This also only works manually, not via request forms.
Hey folks, our Product team is currently working on that, we'll announce once the dynamic links work for blueprints created from request forms 👍

Lisa I thought I read somewhere that the dynamic links were now working for projects created from request forms. I may have dreamed it, but if I didn't, it's still not working for me. Was it a dream? :)
Hi Robin Hayes! I've asked my colleague from the Support team to look into this; they've confirmed this isn't currently supported.

Is there a way to have a dynamic link to a file attached to a Blueprint task.
I would want the link to point at the file that is attached to the Task after its creation from a Blueprint.
Currently a perma-link to a file points back the the file attached to the Blueprint Task.
Juan,
Thanks for your response.
No that is not what I am referring to.
The file I am referencing is a PDF file that is attached to my Blueprint task. In the task description I have a link to the attached file. Upon creation from a Request form or CreateFromBlueprint, the perma link points back to the file that is attached to the blueprint, not the new file that is created when the task is created.
This is similar to the dynamic links to tasks discussed above.
What I am looking to do is, Attached a basic PDF form that can be edited per project. Each Project would get a set of related tasks that all reference this form. Currently I have to permalink the form in 3 locations once the group of tasks is created from a blueprint.
Wrike is creating a new file attached to my task, but the link is still pointing to the file attached to the blueprint.
Juan, I AM attaching/uploading the PDF file to the Blueprint. I am dragging and dropping the file on the task description area that says "Drop files here to upload".
I am doing this " If you uploaded the PDF file as an attachment, every time you create an item using the blueprint, the files would be independent of each other." I want the permalink to this file to be dynamic so that I can put it in other tasks of the project.
Currently the permalinks to an uploaded file link back to the file attached to the Blueprint task.
What I want to do, is put a permalink in other Task of my project Blueprint that link to the ATTACHED/UPLOADED file. My file is a blank form a user must fill in information and another user will print when needed.
I appreciate you trying to work this with me.
Hi Nathan Huf, happy to help. I'll try to provide you with two different options, hopefully one can meet your needs:
1- If you want to use the same PDF file in different tasks of your project blueprint, all you'd need to do is create a task or subtask containing this file and then use this same task as a subtask in different locations of your project.
To better explain how this works: if you have a task ('Task 1') that contains a subtask ('Subtask X with PDF attached'), and in the same project blueprint you have a second task ('Task 2'), to which you add the same subtask ('Subtask X with PDF attached'), the file will be exactly the same, meaning that if a user makes changes to it, they will be reflected in both subtasks - because it's the same subtask. So if a user modifies the file in 'Task 1', the file will be modified as well in 'Task 2'.

2 - A second option would be to upload the file using a cloud based solution, such as Google Drive. By using a file uploaded to Google Drive, its link could be added to several items.
I would strongly recommend the first option, since we are not able to guarantee and support the outcomes of a third-party solution, but I wanted to provide your with the alternative in case you might find it applicable to your case.
Looking forward to your reply 🙂
Lisa is there a release article that explains the functionality of this original request that was implemented in September 2022? I'd love to see a short video demo or a screenshot guide of how it works to see if I'm doing something wrong, because I can't get it to work on my end. :(
Hi Daisy Hibbard, I couldn't find this update within the Community, so I asked our Support team to help you 🙂

Hello Wrike team,
The Dynamic feature works great in details but I was adding a link to the parent task in a custom field (because if something changes, its easier to update the field in the table view than open every task individually) and it did not work. I'm really sad about it.
Hi folks, I've reviewed our Support team's contributions on this topic, and here's how the feature currently works:
If you have a blueprint, for example, a project with tasks and subtasks, and you paste the link to the parent blueprint project into the description of the subtasks, when you launch a brand-new item out of this blueprint, the links in the subtasks should lead you to the parent project, and not to the original blueprint project.
Shiann Weiss Appreciate your feedback, we'll let our team know about it.
