Critical Path Enhancements
I spoke with product support who suggested I post to the Community. Three enhancement requests:
My project governance group wants to see the critical path.
1) In the timeline view graying out the tasks (and lack of control over the order) make it difficult to navigate and easily view the critical path. Lots of scrolling for my project. Filter out and hide non-critical path tasks to make it more compact and viewable.
2) Add a way to identify and report on tasks that Wrike tags as critical path
3) Sharing the timeline does not allow users to filter on critical path. Please add.
Thanks for your consideration!
Hi Christopher! Thank you very much for posting your suggestions here. We're currently working on Timeline View enhancements and your feedback comes right on time. :)
I'd really appreciate if you clarify your use case for us to better understand and address your business needs. What do you use Critical Path for and what would you like it to show ideally and how?
Hi Serge,
Our project leadership (which includes executives from both IT and business) wants to see the critical path of our project. The use case is to communicate the discrete set of tasks which comprise the critical path to an executive audience. Ideally the tasks would show dates, dependencies and assignments. Currently Wrike calculates a critical path by clicking on the critical path button in the timeline view. Non-critical path tasks are "grayed" out. Thus our only current option to show the critical path in Wrike is to bring up the timeline view and scroll up and down the timeline to see the critical path. Not very user friendly or effective in a meeting setting. Moreover this option is not available in the shared timeline view.
Thus my 3 enhancement requests above. Flagging critical path tasks that can be used to filter the table view or in reports would go a long way to solve our issues here.
Thanks for your consideration!
regards,
Chris
Chris, this is great! Thanks a lot for elaborating on your use case.
We also have the same problem with critical path.
When we build our project planning (which can be 100 tasks), we have to optimize the dependencies knowing the critical path. The actual feature does not allow us to clearly work on it. It would be great to be able to filter out the task that are not on the critical path. Also a field that indicates the tasks on the critical path in the table view would be great !
Regards,
I was asked to add my comments on the critical path to this thread. I would agree with Chris and Sebastien. One item I would add would be able to see the near critical paths as well. When developing a true schedule based on dependencies and duration you must be able to validate it some how and by clearly seeing the critical path and near critical path task you can verify they are correct with the different teams. My schedules can be any where from 100 task to 1000 task depending on the complexity of the project so the timeline view is not conducive to properly analyze a schedule.
Regards,
Justin
I’m in the same situation of having many tasks and ease of finding Critical Path with the critical path features. If all critical path tasks could be highlighted, not just highlighted on a GANTT chart, it would be a better project management product.
Current old timeline critical path only highlights critical path tasks. It’s difficult to find them when your project is 100+ lines and your screen resolution only allows so much to be viewed at a time on the GANTT chart. By highlighting the task itself in table view, list view, and timeline view, It would allow clear direction and provide an accurate pulse of the project.
If critical path tasks can be identified in the analysis reports, scarce resources will know what to spend their time focusing on.
@Thread Hi everyone! We just released a new version of Critical Path to the Timeline View. This was important to a lot of teams so can't wait to hear what you think of the updated version. Check out our release post on the feature and let us know if you have any questions!
What I would like to see is to easily add critical path to a task without having to use dependencies/ predecessors. A simple checkbox and color change to the task on the Gantt chart would be awesome. Easily show which tasks are critical without tying in Start and Due dates. Some projects go on for months, and we may not always have dates but we know there are tasks that are critical to project success.
