Roll-up Effort in Tasks (include effort in task but do not display task in widget)
I have created a tracker with various projects being stored in a folder. The projects are created by using a request form which will add a project consisting of a number of tasks (each has a #prefix). The following are the names of the tasks that are common to all projects

#Client Development
#Project Management
#Calls/emails/meetings
#Due Diligence
#Research
#Work Product - Memos
#Work Product - Transactional Documents
#Billing
The purpose of these tasks would be to track time to each #task and to determine the effort in advance of the project. An aid in building out the effort is to include subtasks under the appropriate #task and for each of those discrete subtasks estimate the effort (e.g., an incorporation (1hr), an extra-provincial license (1hr) and a shareholders agreement (1hr) as subtasks of #Work Product - Transactional Documents). Wrike permits rolling up effort (actual time would still be tracked at the parent task level) so that the parent task would show the sum of the effort for the subtasks underneath it in table view. The user can see the effort on a project when looking in Wrike at the table of projects at a collapsed (aggregate effort) or expanded view (effort for each #task (including aggregate of effort for subtasks)).
My challenge is how to display in a bar chart the allocation of effort among the following tasks
#Administrative
#Client Development
#Project Management
#Calls/emails/meetings
#Due Diligence
#Research
#Work Product - Memos
#Work Product - Transactional Documents
#Billing
for each user without also seeing the underlying subtasks (hard to make comparisons among users of effort for #tasks ). For example if there are 3 subtasks under # Work Product - Transactional Documents each with 1 hour of effort, I would like to see the sum of effort of 3 hours for #Work Product - Transactional Documents (with that label) in the chart rather than the names of the 3 subtasks (each showing 1 hour of effort) since it is hard to compare among the users unless the label is the same. Any thoughts would be appreciated :)

Hi Mark Tucknutt and Aloi Calvert, I can share the recommendations from our Support experts, and if Barry has any other best practice to share we'd love to hear it too!
Our team provided two suggestions for this case:
1. Within the current setup with tasks and subtasks, it will be necessary to introduce a custom field that would have a parent task title on each subtask within it. The reason is that there is no visible hierarchical relation between tasks and subtasks. It is possible to display the necessary tasks by applying the Task depth filters, but since you wish to show the data on the parent task, doing this will create a conflict. Hence, the necessity to have another parent identifier for subtasks.
With that said, you can add parent task titles to the subtasks as custom field values, then place the values in categories and then sum up the effort values from subtasks (filtered by the corresponding depth level) in the values.
2. Another option would be using projects and tasks instead of tasks and subtasks. This way you can add the "Project name" or "Include Data from" fields in categories, and sum up the effort set for the tasks within the projects.

I'm not sure I understand what is meant with introducing a custom field in this context - could it have been mistaken for a custom item type? 🤔
I'm in need of summing up the efforts on the subtasks to a task to accumulate the total effort sum on that task (there will be no effort that is not rooted in a subtask) and found this thread.
