List View Improvements

There are some posts around the forum on some aspects of this, but I wanted to start one bringing together several.  You guys are constantly improving List view, and I imagine some of this is in motion already.  I am back and forth as to whether to stick with Wrike, and knowing about your plans here would help me a great deal with committing.  Lisa and @... if you could provide any insight into any of this, that would help me.

- customize the columns. You can add just about any attribute in Table View.  I could really use this in List View though, for example some Custom Fields, which also have the disadvantage of not being greatly visible in the Task Details, because they are not always visible, for example if you are showing subtasks.  Having them in the List View visible would mean you can see them all the time, and not have to toggle in the details.

*** a huge one here would be the ability to show the Job ID here (as well as board view, too) as it's badly needed to be seen everywhere in Wrike not just in task details and table view.

- click into the columns like you can with the Date, but you can't with Status.  If you added more customizability, you could then adjust drop downs in Custom Fields of that type, for example.

- Colors would be excellent - showing the color of folders that have color assigned

- Showing an entire top-level folder or project in the List at once, ie not having to click into each to see what tasks are there.  This is very useful if I am trying to do Portfolio Management in List View - I have say 4 projects rolled up into a Quarterly Initiative Project.  I'd like to be able to expand the Projects and see at a glance what tasks are in which projects.  I can do this in Table view and that's great.  But it's funny to have to click into each Project to see its tasks, and then rely on the breadcrumbs only at the top of the List View to see that we're still in that top-level Project.  My team has struggled with this the months we've been using Wrike.

Asana really excels here and I think you guys could gain a lot of the leg up they have on you with at least letting sub-folders expand in the List view.

Really hoping you guys can shed some light on whether any of this is coming to Wrike anytime soon!

Hi Al Sape

I've checked with the Product team, and they are very interested to know whether or not you are using the Table View, because everything that you've pointed out here is available in it. Please feel free to share as much detail as you can, and I'll pass your use-case to the team.

Thank you!

Hi Lisa,

Yes that's exactly right.  But the table view has been cumbersome for us, here are some reasons:

- Resembles a Spreadsheet.  We are trying to find a tool that is more User-friendly and dynamic than just using Google Sheets in essence to manage work

- When you open a task or project, you get the "pop-up."  That blocks the rest of what's in the table for view and for context.  Your List View I am guessing is the first option because you guys feel it's the "go to" view.  The 3-pane approach is great, being able to see a Task details in the context of the others at one time.  What's more, unlike Asana, you can adjust the width of the Task view - that's an excellent feature you can't benefit from in Table View.

- Lack of color.  The Table view can be hard to use as it takes a lot of effort to dig out info as there is no color - no color in Custom fields, the Folders & Projects lose their color, etc.  You have not enough color in List View, but I'm using the folder tags with color and it does help a lot

I love your Table View and really appreciate the new improvements.  But it's better for individual work by a Manager I think, or the occasional view to highlight all the great data.  But we really need a proper team view.

This is why I can't wait to see whatever you guys have planned for the new UI!

Thanks Lisa.

Thank you so much for getting back to me here! I've checked with the team, and, although this is not planned short-term, they are planning to revisit the List View functionality. So your feedback and explanation of why the Table View is not a perfect solution in certain use-cases is really helpful! Thank you again, Al Sape

I would like to add to this - it would be great if you could have sections in List view, like this screenshot from a competitor's product.  We have certain projects (like webinars and events) that have extensive task lists and it would be helpful to have them visually broken up on the page to make it easier to find and digest everything happening.

Hi Lisa, I was wondering if you have any update on this?  Coming back to Wrike again this is one area that seems still to be lacking, for example just seeing some custom fields, which are now visible on boards where arguable there is less space to display them.

I noticed in My To-Do there are a few more options:

But I'm not sure if those have been there a while, or perhaps some indication of some additional options in regular list view?

Thanks!

Hi Al Sape, sorry for the late reply! The team is currently focusing on other Wrike views, in particular, the Table View. I also wanted to mention the improved views available in the New Wrike Experience. There are now primary and custom views available, please check out this article to learn more and let me know if you have any questions!
