Hi Mike, thanks for your patience here. This is not possible. It is possible to see which items contain attachments but there's no way to copy via API. The way the UI and the API look at attachments are different in this way.

It might help to post your use-case here so others can see what you're looking to achieve, and might be able to suggest a workaround 👍

Thanks for the response Stephen.  My team has a project template that gets duplicated for all new projects coming in, and that template has attachments that we want on the copied "live" projects as well.  We developed a tool using the API that makes the project copies, and currently the attachments are the only thing that don't get brought over.  Any alternative ideas would be appreciated.

@Mike, just letting you know I'm changing this post to the Product Feedback forum so the Product Team have it for reference - any updates in the future around this I'll post here, in the meanwhile others can now vote for this idea - thank you for sharing 🙌

Thanks for the information.  Just to clarify though, are you saying there is no workaround for this feature using the API as it stands now?  I see several supported web request types that deal with attachments (get attachments, download, create, etc.) but I haven't had any luck using these to accomplish the same thing as a "copy attachments" function.

Speaking with our technical team Mike, I'm sorry to say copying attachments via the API is not possible right now - it simply works differently from how the UI is built. I have been surprised at workarounds others have accomplished in other areas so perhaps another member can advise but I have no workaround at hand.

I can see this has been requested already via another feedback channel and there's an open case with our Product Team. I've added this Community post to that internal feedback process (as we do with all posts in the Product Feedback forum). As with all Community feedback, the more votes the more the Product Team understand the popularity of an idea and can help it be prioritized.

The only suggestion that comes to mind (warning, it's a hacky workaround!) is to use hyperlinked cloud storage for attachments so when duplicating the description the link to the cloud will be available in the copy.

If you find a workaround or decide to take another route to achieve this, I would be super interested to hear about it so do pop back to me here anytime with how you move forward with this.

I understand this is not an ideal reply - once I have an update from the Product Team on any movement on the API availability to copy attachments I will update you here.

I hope others can pop in here and share how they might run a similar process, with or without API 👍
