Attach file from OneDrive via Office 365 plug in?

If I am working with a file in Word that is saved to OneDrive, is it possible to attach that file directly from OneDrive via the Office 365 plug in? When I use the Wrike plug in to attach a file to a task, I end up with a copy of that file and not a link to that file on OneDrive. Am I missing something or is this not an option?

Hi Anthony, when you attach a file from a storage cloud like OneDrive, it shares the file with everyone on the task and links back to its location in the cloud storage. An actual copy of the file doesn't exist in Wrike so it doesn't take up space in your storage and edits are localised on the cloud platform too.

You could open the file in OneDrive, download it as a file and then upload the actual file to the task.

Hope this helps 👍

Hi Stephen - I understand how to attach a linked file from within Wrike itself and that works as I would expect. However, if I'm using the Office 365 plugin to attach a file to a document from within Word, for example, it attaches it as a file itself (as if I had uploaded it from my desktop) and not as a link to OneDrive.

I'm trying to figure out if I have a file that is already saved to OneDrive if there is a way to attach it to a task from within Word and the Office 365 plug in or if I need to do it through Wrike itself.

Hi Anthony, attaching a link to the document this way is not possible, or at least I'm unaware of any workaround. The Wrike plug-in is performing correctly; it's attaching the word document as is. To attach a One-Drive link to the attachment you would need to choose this option on the Task itself and upload from One-Drive there.

Is this a process you deal with a lot?

Hi Stephen - we are still in the process of deploying Wrike at our company, but I expect that this is something that will come up on a regular basis for myself and for all of our teams. OneDrive is the place that we store all files and one thing we're very particular about is only having ONE copy of a file, shared via a OneDrive link for purposes of version control. It would definitely be helpful to be able to add a link via the Office 365 plugin rather than having to go out to Wrike to attach files.

I understand. Right now attaching to a task by this method, will actually upload a document to the task, not a link.

I've changed this post to a Product Feedback thread so others wanting to do this can upvote it and our Product Team will have visibility going forward 👍

If this is not helping Stephen from what he describes it, what are the Office 365 add-on benefits? I do not see the add-on adding anything... if any?
