[Status: Coming Soon...๐ (available in the New Board View - Wrike Labs)] Add subtasks to the Board View
รpinglรฉeRight now only parent tasks are visible in the Board View. It would be really great if we could see all theย subtasksย too. Probably a new advanced filter would do the trick, so that a user could switch between displaying onlyย up levelย tasks or all tasks includingย subtasks. It willย definitelyย help in managing complicatedย goals.
The Board View is the centerpiece of Wrike. It is a shame that the subtasks are not showing up there. This feature would be great.
Welcome to the Community, Murat Karagoez! Thank you for sharing your feedback here. If there are any changes, I'll be sure to keep you posted.
I'm getting into this conversation on the brink of Q420, and to see that the issue hasn't been resolved by now is concerning. I will echo the sentiments of earlier board commenters: This is a high-interest functionality that needs to be added ASAP. I can't consider Wrike as an Agile-supporting tool until this is in place. It wouldn't be that difficult to achieve. Just add the names and links to the subtasks in their respective cards, or even a "card drawer" where you could expand a quick view of the subtasks. Enough for visibility and expansion.ย ย
I am new to Wrike this year after manyย years of using Jira, and I am shocked that is has been requested hundreds of times over more than two years, and the Wrike Product Team has not decided to prioritize this and add this value. This is a high-interest functionality thatย needsย to be added ASAP. I can't consider recommending Wrike as an Agile-supporting tool until this is in place. What will it take to communicate this as an absolute requirement to your tool?ย
Wrike is a required tool within my company to manage projects successfully, and Kaban (Board view) is highly favored.ย Please implement subtasks being visible in the Board view as soon as possible.
Hi everyone, a quick update here -
While the Product team have no plans to add this suggestion to the short-term roadmap, there are plans to work on this suggestion next year. As soon as I have any new information, I'll be sure to let you know.
I too would like to see sub-tasks able to display on the board view (without a ghost tag workaround). This should be an option to enable/disable per board. And like others have suggested, have some display options like:
- swim lanes for parent tasks
- show subtasks 'inline' in the card or show as separate cards

At least provide a way to search for tasks with ghost tags.
Hiย Osamu Namiki, thanks for getting in touch.ย
I've passed on your feedback on this to our Product team. If you need anything else be sure to let me knowย ๐

Agered - this would be a very useful feature. When it shows you a count of subtasks, the users try to click through. So would improve the board feature to be more detailed.
So what do your [Wrike] developers use to track their work? JIRA? Something with a true kanban board?
@David Fienzeig, funny I've meant to ask that myself for a while now...hard to imagine any serious dev team doing work with this kind of board. ย Would be really appropriate for Wrike to weigh in on this, like present a "how-to" if they actually use this meager board to develop the product, and show the rest of the user base how that's possible. ย I gave up on Wrike for now as this was one of the biggest limitations - my need is mainly software dev, with team management and marketing as well. ย But could never get anywhere with these primitive boards.
Great post!

@David Feinzeig, great question!
@David Feinzeig, We use Jira at our firm since Wrike's Board View is non functional to be effectively used as a Kanban board.
Hi again, everyone! The team has plans to rework the Board View next year and they are planning to cover some of the asks here on the Community, including this oneย ๐ We'll let you know more when we canย ๐ A huge thanks to everyone on this thread for your continued support and feedback!ย

I have left Wrike, but am reconsidering and this is one of the bigger missing pieces. ย While glad to see Lisaย mentioning these improvements will actually be considered, I'm typically concerned by the nebulous nature of that comment - "we have plansย next year,"ย and we'll let you know when we can, etc. ย Really seems there has been no resolutions to be more straightforward with the community about what the Product Team - who I still contend needs a presence here in the community so the mods are not continually running smoke screens - actually plans to do. ย I signed up for the Weekly Release updates for about the last year, but while it's admirable that you guys actually do weekly releases, the amount of actual features of substance in those releases is negligible. ย
Would you guys care to actually answer the question about what you use for dev? ย Most of your competitors have big, transparent info about how they use their own tools to develop their own tool! ย I don't know why you have avoided that question, so I'm going to ask again and see if you will avoid it yet another time! ย What board to your devs use when developing Wrike??
Yes that would be a great feature.ย
What I do to display my subtasks on the board is to re-add the subtasks to the project/folder. It's manual, but it works.
Hi everyone! The team is researching adding tasks to the Board View (along with some other improvements for the view)ย ๐
Al Sapeย Thank you for bringing this up! We aren't currently sharing this type of information publicly, but this is an interesting suggestion, so I'll let the team know about your interest in this ๐

Hi Nick Ramm, welcome to the Community! ๐
The team is investigating so we don't have an ETA yet. I'll keep you posted ๐

Hi Lisa,
When you investigate please have a look at how JIRA and Azure are successful in controlling Tasks (Stories) on a board view by moving Subtasks from To Do into Done.
Hence, the swarming around a specific Story and completing the Subtasks as fast as possible is what true team collaboration, as defined by Scrum, is all about.
Welcome to the Community Chris Fortuin! ๐ Thank you for the tip ๐ค

Also miss this feature on every new project I start in Wrike. Hope 2021 will be the year when they implement it.

It is quite surprising that the ability to see subtasks in the board view is currently impossible, and that Wrike has not fast-tracked this feature as a critical and basic need in project management.
I would point out that while this is perhaps most detrimental to the agile methodology, it impacts more traditional, waterfall projects as well.ย Nesting subtasks under higher-level tasks or phases is not new, and the idea that following that best-practice means you won't be able to use the board view is shocking.ย It was only recently, as my team got back into Wrike after a year of dealing with lock-down issues that I expanded my use of subtasks beyond my personal projects (where I can view them at the individual project level without a problem) to trying to view them by assignee in our group meetings, via the board view.ย
This leads me into the role of user-community feature recommendations and upvoting.ย It's a great method for determining high-value alternatives for enhancements and nice-to-haves for the user base; however, when a suggestion highlights the absence of what many would consider a core feature or basic functionality, the standard voting rules should not apply.ย The development team should be able to recognize it as such and streamline development, including a way for end-users to control its use (e.g., the earlier suggestion to be able to toggle subtask visibility on and off), thus delivering value and keeping everyone happy.ย Companies used to do feature concept development entirely in-house, and just because you are having your customers do that work for you for free shouldn't mean you ignore tougher, but important needs.
I would also echo an earlier comment that once a suggestion has been sitting around for two years as this one has, with over 180 upvotes, and Wrike has done nothing but say it is on the blueprint to be put on the possible horizon of a future QxYxx roadmap, many will give up on it, stop voting, and recognize that the system doesn't work as implied.ย With natural accidental splitting of requests into multiple threads, hitting threshold is a tall order, and doing so should mean something other than periodic promises of investigation.
We know software development is not easy, and that implementation may be complicated, but it seems the more I get into trying to use Wrike for effective task and project management, the more frustrated I get at its deficiencies.ย Wrike has many nice features, and finding such gaps isn't unusual, but knowing that solid recommendations will be worked on until they can be implemented would instill far greater confidence and loyalty to the product.ย I hope this feature can be realized in 2021, or an anticipated launch date identified soon.
Thanks so much for your detailed feedback here Steve Pragel, it's been passed on to the team ๐
I'm very happy to let everyone here know that this suggestion is planned for development, and that's why I've changed the status here to "Coming Soon". It means that the idea is on the team's roadmap and we'll be updating you here on how it goes. The timeframe isn't currently available, but as I mentioned previously, we'll keep you in the loop ๐
Huge thank you to everyone here for your feedback and votes ๐ค
