Deferred Tasks Set to Become Active At a Specified Date

If I set a task status as “deferred” is there a way to defer this task until a certain date so that at that date the task changes its status to “active”?

Hey, Elisabeth,

This isn't a feature.  Can you give a little more input on what you're trying to accomplish overall?  It'd be easier to give an appropriate work around with some more information.

For instance, I have a custom workflow for ongoing tasks.  Daily, Weekly, Bi-weekly, Monthly, Quarterly, Annually and As Needed.  Daily and weekly tasks aren't scheduled since they're always front and center, but anything farther out is what you can consider essentially deferred but until a date I schedule.  The status is actually as an active state, but I can still filter out and ignore these things that aren't within my 7 day or 30 day rolling windows.

This is a feature I was looking for too. Typically I have tasks which require me to reach an outside vendor and I need to wait for their response. So while I'm waiting, I move the task to "On Hold" and set the date to the point at which I want to check in on the vendor again. My work around is to create two widgets on my dashboard. "Active" and "On Hold", then periodically I check on the "On Hold" tasks and if they're past the set date then I reach out to the vendor again. It would be nice to have the task automatically move to a different status when the set date was hit.

@Adam, thanks for sharing your approach to managing deferred tasks - others will definitely find this helpful.

I'm interested to see how others manage this now. Once I have more information about the request I'll be sure to update you here when and if I have more information 👍
