[Status: Not planned] Ability to merge tasks

I sometimes come across the situation when two (or more) different people, usually in different teams, set up separate instances of the same task. An example would be the creation of a piece of collateral for an event. The event team might set up a project for the event with a large number of tasks, one of which is to create a flyer. The content team might be independently briefed about the flyer, but not realize or notice there's already a task for it and create another one. If this isn't picked up early I end up with two tasks, each with comments, attachments, working hours, etc. from the respective teams.

I'd like to any easy way to merge two tasks, combining the comment streams, attachments, etc. There would need to be a mechanism for resolving date, status, etc. conflicts during the merge process.

I wanted to through this out there for anyone wanting this feature. A workaround for now that I started using is that you can move a task into another task as a subtask. We mark the extras as "duplicates". Directions: You want to highlight the task you want as the primary and then drag and drop the duplicates on top of the "create a subtask" area of the primary task.

Valerie, that does work if two tasks are components of one larger project. The problem is when two or more tasks are actually the same thing, but both have different sets of comments. The ideal would be a way to merge the two tasks into one.

I agree. I'm demoing the system and can already see issues here. A marketing manager creates a task stub as part of a project plan. Then marketing manager submits a form request to creative which essentially creates a duplicate task. I'd like to be able to merge or link the two.

Copy the Asana "Mark as duplicate" UX, that among other things inherit/adds the followers, projects/folders to the original and allows undoing, and you're good

The ability to compile/condense jobs that have been (mistakenly) logged separately, is a FUNDAMENTAL need in terms of work organization.  Wrike, you need to offer this to match the efficiency of a human traffic manager.

For the sake of task list hygiene, this would be very useful. I'm sure it's super complicated because of how robust the task object is. The key is that one task be the "master" task and the others are the consolidated tasks. Would love to see this in labs/beta.

Yes please!!! Due to the nature of Wrike, and the many users of the system inevitably you are going to have two people creating a the same task that will eventually need to be combined.

This will support the long term usability of Wrike.  If Wrike starts getting "messy" people will want to abandon the system.  This feature would enable teams to keep a clean work flow without loosing important data.

PLEASE: enable the ability to combine tasks. Thank you!

We had four people ask for this today. Also, every task subject box should include a search like the subtasks do. This should lower the number of duplicates. Has this already been requested? Regardless. Merging and splitting tasks would be excellent features!!!

+1.  This is a needed feature, especially when doing QA, it's very easy to have duplicate tasks.  A nice feature to go along with this is the ability for Wrike to give you some suggestions for which tasks might be duplicates (since there are usually several words in the task names that are the same).
