Folllowing List for Post: [Status: Not planned] Convert a Task into a Project
[this list is visible for admins and agents only]
Thanks for looking into this! We would be interested as well.
Add me to the list. It's almost strange this isn't yet a possibility, especially after people were consistently asking in 2017. This issue is among the very first I have encountered using Wrike, and it seems a pretty elementary thing to be able to do - why the wait? We can work around it, but that isn't ideal. Can you at least give us an update and timeframe?
I'll add my vote to this one too. Tasks can evolve and grow over time, so this is required functionality. Any automated solution here would also need to convert associated subtasks to tasks (effectively promoting everything up a level) I did spot somebody on this thread requesting the ability to turn a task into a program too. I also see that need, but if we could turn a task into a project and promote anything underneath at the same time, I'm thinking that the same functionality could them be used (by end-users) to repeat the process until the program structure was created. It's not the 'one push' magic bullet, but would work OK.
I agree with Julie Tilke about this. We need to be able to convert a task with subtasks to a project with tasks. This is a common need as you flesh out the requirements for a project. An alternative solution might be to let you track/schedule subtasks in the Kanban tool and Gantt Chart tool, but I think promoting Tasks with Subtasks to Projects with Tasks will be simpler.
Agree with Richard, I hope it can be added very soon. This would be very useful when a task or request is becoming bigger than expected, and requires to be handled as a project vs. a normal epic that would be delivered part of the agile delivery cycle.
Just at the start of my trial period and the very first thing I am wanting to do is to convert a task into a Project. This is the way I work in accordance with the GTD philosophy of brain dump and then filter. Not being able to change a task into a Project is already creating friction with Wrike right at the start. There are numerous alternatives to Wrike (Asana, Monday.com etc) which are all on my list for review, not a great start to my trial.
I am trying to build out a basic governance process that allows a request form to create a task, follow a certain workflow, then be converted to a more formal project after its approved. Having this functionality would be really helpful to keep the traceability intact. (though as a workaround, we will copy and paste information)
2 years later... I am also waiting for this.
Why is this not in production? There are 90+ comments voicing that this would be extremely helpful. Can someone please give us an update on when this might be implemented?
Naomi Harper +1.
The lack of this feature is absurd.
Well, it looks like I'm back for what is becoming my annual request for this feature. I've seen that the status of this feature is "Coming Soon," but I know it's been showing that status for a while now. Though, I'm not sure exactly when it switched. Can a Wrike team member give us an indication of when we can expect this feature to be implemented?
My organization wants this feature as well.
It's staggering to me how little traction these community posts get towards actually making it into the product. I've seen several posts just sit on "Investigating" or "Coming Soon" or one of the other statuses for upwards of half a year without any updates.
With the advent of Blueprints, it would also be nice to be able to use them as a template for the project that is created, similar to how that works on request forms. The history from the task is imperative, but it'd be wonderful to be able to fill in custom fields, add to the description, and setup a default task structure as well.
An update would be great because this is a much needed feature for our team as well.
We have been working with Wrike for several months now and are often met with this roadblock due to some of the GTD processes much of the team often uses.
It is disappointing to see that this feature is now almost a two-year-old request.
It will make our work more productive if we had this feature.
Figured I would add to the pile, thanks.
@Dustin - ditto that. Two years and still waiting.
Very frustrating to see this email chain. I'm a relatively new user, working as a consultant across a number of companies, and i really like what Wrike can do. I recommend it where i can, but this feature is a genuine need. Wrike does a lot, but in many SMEs the main competition when it comes to the adoption of ANY formal task/project management tool is excel. It frequently wins the battle, not because it does a lot of fancy things, but because it can be mangled to do pretty much anything by somebody smart, it's free, and it's likely to be on everyone's desk already!
I can win the argument to give Wrike a try because you can start 'lite' and move one to increasing your use of functionality when you feel comfortable, but this gap in functionality comes pretty quick on that maturity curve, and it's definitely a barrier to adoption. Please fix this yesterday, or at least tell us when you plan to fix it. I assume you're an agile shop, so i understand that not everything you want to get into a release actually makes the cut, but it would be nice to understand what has been trumping this, and where it is in the queue right now.
Thanks
Greetings. Adding my voice to this request (from 2017!) to be able to convert a task to a project. This would be a very helpful feature. Wrike - I'm happy to help test in alpha or beta phases.
Thanks
Adding mine too.
I need to work on a huge task with a lot of subtask created by a user that does not understand Wrike correctly. But now without the function to convert, IU needs to move tasks one by one, lost some comments on the main task .....
Very annoying!
Bump. We need this too.
Bumping this request as it would be a very helpful feature!
It seems like this is a function that has been requested for years, and it would be so helpful!
🙏
Hi all, sorry if anyone missed the official comment from our PM. I've moved it all you'll find it just above me or by clicking here.
I'll be sure to keep you up to date once I have some concrete news about this feature.
We ask you for two things when requesting or adding a vote for a new feature like this across Community:
Thanks!
Please provide the Wrike - suggested 'Workaround' to convert a Task into a Project. I'd hate to spend a half of a day converting everything if there's a more optimal way.
Thanks!
We currently go through these steps to create a project from an approved request task.
In this process, the original request task is still kept as the primary project description and history instead of the the actual project object in Wrike. We copy the custom fields around for the reporting we've setup work correctly.
I agree with everyone here! This function would help our team more than words can describe! PLEASE FAST TRACK!!!
Wow. Customers have been asking for a task-to-project feature since 2017. @Arkadiy, I'm guessing you use Wrike for your own projects. Tasks become projects all the time. How do you convert tasks to projects?
I'd also like to vote for this convert task to project feature. Would be extremely useful.
bumpety bump bump bump...pretty please with sugar on top. Need this feature asap. thanks team Wrike!
