[From Wrike] Introducing the New Sidebar and Toolbar in Workspace - Try in Labs 🔎

Hello everyone!

We are excited to continue to bring you more Product announcements and in this post, I'd like to introduce you to our new sidebar and toolbar that is now available in Wrike Labs 🎉

Let's dive in to discover what the new updates are ✨

🧭 Navigate to all places in a new single sidebar

The new sidebar including our toolbar is now presented in a single space instead of two which includes all your essential tools and pinned items.

🎨 Personalize your sidebar
Choose what tools you'd like to have as quick access such as Dashboards, Calendars, Reports, and more on the top section.

👁 Keep your content visible at all times
The sidebar won't get between you and your work! You can now keep your work item or page visible at all times while having the sidebar open.

📌 Easy access to pinned items
It's now easier than ever to access your pinned items with just one click. If you move between pinned items frequently, keep your sidebar open at all times to navigate easily between your projects, dashboards, folders, or any other pinned item.

How can you enable the new Sidebar?

You can find the new Sidebar in Wrike Labs. When you enable the new sidebar and toolbar your left navigation will be switched to the Labs version. The sidebar and toolbar can be enabled on the individual user level and you can always disable the feature and go back to the previous version.

We'd love to hear what you think of the new sidebar. Please share your questions, feedback, or ideas in the comments👇

@... The side bar I like at the first tests. The new toolbar is bad compared to old one.

The toolbar is much more dense (only one row compared to two rows before), so it is hard to figure out where to click. Why not use the whole screenwidth and make some more seperation between the topics?

Also the new way to add new views to a project needs more clicks. Why not keping the simple + sign from old style? (Old stile: click on + and click on the view you need = 2 clicks, new style: click all, click add view, click the view you want, click create = 4 clicks; so this is doubling the clicks without any advantage)

I could not find a way to call my preset filters. I can open filter menu on the right side but I do not have the dropdown from the old stile where I can choose preset filters.

The same with expand all and collapse all. Old stile only one click because both are visible. New stile you click ones on Expand and then on dropdown choose expand or collaps. I use this very often and a click more hurts.

So my first impression. Especially for the new toolbar I do not see any improvements at the moment but only more clicks I have to make just for a new look. Why did you change it? What should be the improvement? Can you give any advantage you had in mind for the daily work?

@... also in the Gantt Chart I recohnized, that you can not change the workflow with the new view.

In Gantt you can only change to status in the same workflow (screenshot 1). If I open the task I can also change to other workflows. This is also needed in the Gantt (use the same menu as in the task itself (screenshot 2)).

Hi Sven Passinger, I've raised the feedback with the team, thank you for posting. Since this is a labs version, it's subject to change and improvements, if there are any changes or developments on this I'll be sure to let you know here👍🏼

I like the new sidebar. It's easier to navigate between spaces and feels less like a directory tree

Thanks for all the hard work, Wrike Team!

Overall, while there are some sticking points (as is generally the case with any new implementation) I've been happy with the new Sidebar changes. The Toolbar changes a little less so, as Sven Passinger mentioned and I made a point to address in the feedback I submitted.

To avoid doubling up on all the typing I did for my feedback via the Wrike Labs link I've copied and pasted it below. 😁

Removal of Toolbar from Home page is not clear from Wrike Labs description of changes implemented.

Sidebar
Overall, the new sidebar concept is nice.
Top
"Dashboards" feels like it should lead to a landing page similar to "Reports".
Pinned
Inability to reorganize "Pinned" content is a sticking point.
Spaces
It would be convenient to be able to navigate between spaces within the sidebar without triggering a change in the main viewing area (i.e. looking at projects or folders in a space via the sidebar as reference while inputting information in another space via the main viewing area).
This change would increase the number of clicks for navigation by 1, but likely decrease the amount of processing required for navigation by cutting down unnecessary changes in the viewing area.

Toolbar
Views
The "All" dropdown menu is less intuitive than the "+" icon.
Requiring an additional click to add views is inefficient and unnecessary.
The "Delete" function adding a view to the "Hidden" section and requiring an additional operation to remove it from the dropdown menu highlights these inefficiencies further.
Expand & Collapse
"Expand" isn't immediately intuitive as the option to select when a user wants to collapse folders, projects, etc.
"Expand" and "Collapse" with individual dropdown menus for additional options (all, to next level, projects, tasks, etc) would be much more intuitive across views.
"Expand next level" option in "Table (new)" view is great and would be much appreciated in "Gantt Chart" view (as well as others, I'm sure).

When enabling the new Toolbar view, it removes the ability to Import or Export to excel in Folder and Project views. When looking at the top level of the Space I can still access this ability but once I click on a project I can no longer find it. If it does exist, it isn't easy to find.

I hate the fact that the new toolbar opens every time I move past that side of the screen. I have dual monitors and whenever I move the cursor to the left monitor the sidebar opens. This is very irritating. I rarely use the sidebar, so when I close it I want it to stay closed until I choose to reopen it. Please add an option to prevent it from opening automatically.
