[Status: Launched 🚀] Viewing Projects in Dashboards

We would like to be able to view projects and their statuses in Dashboards.

At present, the project shows as a tag on the tasks, but not as an item we can use to group tasks, and not as a reportable item in an of itself.

Widgets are a very user-friendly way of answering multiple relevant questions and keeping tabs on them over time without the exec (many of whom aren't particularly tech-savvy) needed to skillfully run reports, and for our organization, it is more useful to see information at the higher (Project) level than to always drill down on the specific tasks.

+1 vote.

It would be really useful in project+task oriented environments.

I'd like to see my team's engagement in daily routine (as subordinates) and in long term projects (as project managers) simultaneously.

Our team has defined 3 types of approaches.

  1. Operational: "condition-based" tasks which a generated by our clients via requests or by manager or by subordinates via direct tasks.
  2. Scheduled: "process/time-based" tasks which a generated by manager via recurrent tasks due to inner rules and maintenance standards.
  3. Project: Long term complex multitudes of "project-based" tasks which a generated by manager or by subordinates

Right now we deal with this issue having daily meetings for Operational and Scheduled tasks and 2 monthly meetings for Projects. But sometimes in dynamical environments such approach leaves scarce time buffers for the manager to response on the change.

@Ella Greene

I'd like to share our "workaround" in R&D case.

Basically we create one milestone (planed project end date) and all other tasks are just sub-tasks.

Then we add "text based" widget to the dashboard. "Text based" means we create it via search string with standardized fraction of milestone name.

I have some good news guys - Project widgets are now available for Dashboards. You can also create a file widget from a Project so you can see all documents within a Project.

More information here in the Knowledge Base 👍

Is this possible in the new Dashboard? Would really like to be able to group things by the root project so you can have overdue, today, future all grouped together by Project and have an actual project heading... not have to rely on a cryptic tag to know what you're looking at.

Hi Tim Ogletree, thank you for chiming in. In New Dashboards you can create widgets based on projects:

Or widgets based on task and break them by project:

Is this what you were looking for?

Please, feel free to check our dedicated post about the latest enhancement to New Dashboards 🙂

Now that we can see projects in dashboards, it would be helpful to also see that project's status. Currently you can see all the tasks within the projects' status, but not the project itself.
