[Status: Launched! 🚀] Delete custom fields?
https://help.wrike.com/hc/en-us/articles/209603049-Custom-Fields
That link is cool...but we now have too many custom fields which aren't addressed anywhere on the forums. Over time, people have created & customized these areas, but it's too cluttered & we don't need them. I've marked them as "DELETE" but don't have a way to access the "master area" storing all the custom field titles in order to go through & delete them. Please advise. TY!

Sorry for the delay getting back to you Julia 😇
Custom Field logic won't allow a full deletion in Wrike, this is mainly due to Folder/Project data being recovered if the CF is restored.
For now, you can two options:
I like the idea of having an option to completely delete Custom Fields and I wonder if this post started by Stuart may be of interest to you and if so please upvote the idea, please.
Thanks for sharing your feedback with us!
Stephenie, We are also having the same problem. We have a field we need to delete. We have tried hiding the field in Table view of all of the folders/projects, but the field is still showing up in the tasks contained within these folders and I can't find a way of hiding it. Am I missing something?
@Angus, are you clicking the gear icon and then checking/unchecking the box next to the field you want to hide, or clicking the dropdown arrow next to the field and then clicking "remove". You'll need to do the latter in order for the field to disappear. Let us know if that's what you're doing and you're still seeing the field.
How very odd. I completely missed that despite myself and my colleagues looking at it several times. Thankyou, that has hidden it properly.
Angus
@Angus It happens! I actually was trying to do the exact same thing yesterday, so your question was perfect timing.
I have the same problem, it´s really important to delete custom columns, anyone can help me?
Thks
Hi Antonio, I think that this was taken care of, but please let me know if you have any questions!
Hi,
I created a custom field during a test session, now I do not need any more this field. That means that I do not want it appearing when in Table view I click on Add column.
Is there a way to completely remove it?
Thanks
Hi Vilma, there's no way to completely remove Custom Field. You can remove them which hides them in Task View, or you can edit the Custom Field when you're creating a new one.
It would be great to see your vote on the original post so our Product Team can understand the popularity of this request for future enhancements in this area 👍
WHen I click on the drop down arrow next to the custome field in table view, the only option I have is to Edit Field
Custom Fields need to have the ability to be deleted. There are many fields created by our team in test mode, and they are always in view. If we want to use custom fields for different projects, "hiding" them defeats the purpose. We have tried renaming, but the original "creator" still exists. Not to mention the pages of custom fields we would continue to live with.
This is an annoyance and certainly should be a field an Admin could delete.
My team just started in the tool and I also have this problem in creating custom fields during testing that are no longer valid but they are still available for selection.
If we cannot remove them, we should at least be able to archive them, which is essentially remove them from anything visible or tangible within Wrike and store them in a separate folder where only archived items can be view and restored, similar to the delete folder where you can restore items.

It's actually pretty ridiculous that there's no way to remove unused column names. It creates a mess.
Please remove hidden fields from the fields returned in the API. It's making integration a mess
I have learned that we were able to get rid of them (or at least decrease they're annoyance) by removing any values within the sub-items they were created for and then deleting them. They still show up, but then we renamed them to become something like
They can always be reconfigured, renamed and repurposed at a later date. By putting the z prefix, it shoves it down towards the bottom of the list.
We have our unused fields named similarly (<deleteTag>_column1, etc.) but even if we choose to hide those fields, they are reappearing into our projects and generating a lot of clutter.
I opened a support ticket and was told that hiding them was my only option, or I can have Wrike support remove the fields for me.. why can't I and my Admins do this at the client level? That is verify frustrating for such a [what seems like] a simple feature request..
We started to use Wrike some months ago and created many custom fields, mainly to play around and try out. Now we have chaos! The custom fields are inherited each time to new subprojects and tasks. The fields are displayed in all detail views which is confusing. Please make sure to include the delete function.
I'm holding out hope that their architects are working on a solution to this problem. One is what the architecture needs to look like, and two, how do we get existing data into it so no one loses anything. Been there, done that. It's not for the faint of heart and it takes time. But these requests have been coming for at least a year now (probably more).
It's crucial to have the ability to Manage and Delete Custom Fields. Its soooo frustrating having to track down every single folder the field could be in and then choosing "hide" or "remove from this folder" only for it then go to a parent folder or subfolder.
We need the ability to delete custom fields. That we don't have this basic feature is mind boggling. Every project has a ridiculous number of fields that I have no ability to hide when looking at the project. The only thing I can think of is to share the fields with only those that made them, but for some reason it also shares it back with me and I'm trying to get rid of it. Wrike is just a mess!
What concerns me is that they recently added custom field history auditing to the labs. If they are adding features to an area that is clearly in need of a complete overhaul (they said it, not me) I don't see this being resolved any time soon. How are we supposed to monitor whether this is being considered, or in process?
@James Painter.
Not sure if it will help in your situation, but you can control what people do and don't see a custom field. That's how we're able to contain some of the chaos around custom fields by controlling the permissions on them. See the included screenshot on where to go to adjust this. If you click on where the arrow is pointing at, another popup will show, allowing you to restrict who can and shouldn't see that field. Hope it helps! Otherwise shout out with any specific issues you're running into.
@Stephen, I do remember our onboarding trainers covering this, but I'm wondering if it could be repeated a few more times. I know a few on our onboarding team heard it talked about, but most of the team members totally missed it, just because of the sheer volume of other important information.
Is this something Wrike is looking into? Allowing atleast Admins to completely remove custom fields?
Hi
We're experiencing somewhat similar issue. Moreover for us the custom fields are duplicating and other columns remain blank. So when we try to pull up reports some of the information comes in while some does not. When we check the task all the fields do hold value however they DO NOT populate reports. And the frustration adds up when we are not able to delete these custom column fields.
Is this something that is looked into or a way to absolutely remove these columns?
P.S. Multiple teams access WRIKE so hiding any columns does not help. As it gets chaotic when generating new tasks.
I need to remove a custom field from being visible but there is not option for "Remove" in the table view.
Yes, account admins need this capability. I've had to request this support from Wrike twice now. They are and have been very accommodating and timely, but it is something we should be able to do.
Definiitely concur on this one. I have set up many custom fields for testing or ones that are no longer needed. Seems like a basic functionality. most other apps I tested has this ability no problem. Please implement guys!
I was actually logged on looking for a different solution. I created a custom field attempting to solve my other problem, and just happened across this discovery. This is remarkably alarming to me.
Two years from the original post and there's no indication of adding a way to delete custom fields.
Is there a threshold for the number of requests made before a missing feature is added?
Please give us the ability to delete custom fields.
