Folllowing List for Post: [Status: Not planned] Convert a Task into a Project
[this list is visible for admins and agents only]
Hi! I was wondering if there has been any movements on these enhancement requests. It has become a somewhat frequent thing for us that a task's scope will become larger than originally planned and have to be turned into a project. If you just copy/paste the description over into a new project then you loose all the history and customization of the task.
Also this brought up another question to mind for me that perhaps you can guide me to an existing enhancement request: is it on the roadmap at all that timetracking will ever be an option for a project? We often need to update the overall project's information/attachements but cannot track our time in the main project information page. We understand you can create a task for administration for the project or the related tasks but this is just another added task that bogs down our task views. I'd love to give a thumbs up if a request already exists and/or read about other Wrike user's work arounds.
Thank you!
Hi all, I understand this is a popular request and our Product Team is aware and interested in the idea and it makes sense, especially with the detailed use-cases everyone has shared here.
There are internal discussions and they are in the early stages, so I don't have any concrete details to share but as soon as I do I'll be sure to post here.
Thank you all for supporting this idea!
@Stephen Orowe - would you be able to provide an update please?
@Stephen Orowe - Glad to know you are working on the feature to convert tasks into projects and vice versa. This would be a great performance improvement step in our process.
Hi everyone - my use cases have been already captured by previous posters so I won't add here - but, I really want to voice a strong strong desire for this feature as well.
Being able to turn a task into a project would be a fantastic feature
This is coming up weekly around here
+1
Adding my voice to this request. Great to hear the Product Team is working on it.
Is any better way to convert Task to Project. At present create Project first then the task is tagged to that Project and all the custom fields in the Task which has Info. are copied manually into the Project. Any suggestion to do this in a better way & more efficient way... Wrike should give option to convert task to a Project and it will bring more productivity at workplace
Hey Community Team, this thread has been open for over 1.5+ years, with ~100 requests to have this feature. We are in the process of evaluating other tools; one of the main reasons for considering a move away from Wrike is the slow feature upgrade / community support. Could you provide an update on this feature which may help sway our decision making? Thank you.
We just hit this again as well. Really need this.
I am actually shocked that this upgrade has not been on the short list of improvements as well. I have been asking for this for a while as well. To be able to convert project to task and task to project would be a huge improvement as far as time spend creating jobs for my team.
I second the requirement here. Things do change over even a short timeframe, and it would be great to be able to switch type (task to folder and viceversa) easily, without too much redo... I hope with all the different users underwriting this proposal that Wrike will consider developing this feature soon...
@Thread Hi everyone, we've recently started adding statuses to threads with more than 60 votes and I wanted to share a little more about the status we've added here (check out the thread's title). "Investigating" means that our team is looking into this as a possibility, which is a step in the right direction! For this particular request, the team has already started brainstorming how/if this could be implemented and we'll be able to provide a better update in a month.
Product Feedback statuses are new, if you're curious and want to learn more about them we have a Community post that dives more into the details!
Thank you Stephanie. It is appreciated. We often time start intiatives that are but humble tasks which later come to fruition as full projects. This happens all the time, so we are really looking forward to what the team there can pull together.
Just wanted to chime in and suggest that the reverse would be just as useful: convert project to task.
It's not always easy to manage a colleague's understanding of what a task or project should be when they submit a Request Form. Rather than having two forms (one for task and one for project) and then trying to educate which should be used when... it would be so much easier to convert one to the other.
Glad to see this is moving forward!
Hi Kristopher, you might be interested in this feedback post and some workaround posted there. Thanks for posting/voting 👍
Adding my vote for this - please add a way to turn tasks into projects. Just like we can turn folders into projects, and back again.
Add my voice, would be very helpful to convert a task to a project. While you can create a project then copy/paste/move some info from a task to a project, it takes time and you lose some details especially the update history and comments.
Please update when complete!
Just to keep this alive: we need the ability to turn a task into a project. We follow GTD and the distinction is critical. A project is any outcome that requires two or more actions. A Task is a next physical action. People often make tasks that, upon closer inspection are a project - more steps and people needed than it first appeared. So we need to be able to right click "convert to project." The personal productive tool I used previously, Omnifocus, does this brilliantly if the dev team needs any inspiration.
Please update on this "coming soon" item.
Must have! I don't need to describe why: years of comments have done that well. Quoting Stephanie above, "Hi all, I understand this is a popular request and our Product Team is aware and interested in the idea and it makes sense, especially with the detailed use-cases everyone has shared here."
it's popular. it makes sense. use cases are detailed and understandable. why is this so delayed?
I am also frustrated with this process. Voting for features is problematic. Our jobs are hard enough to have to also be product designers for Wrike. Part of my job is to source and implement software for my firm. I want the companies I invest my time and $ into to proactively provide the BEST features, even if I don't ask for them.
This feature is, I believe, an objectively good idea. I started a thread on another feature request, years ago, that is also objectively a good idea. The thread got traction, and use cases were abundant. still no love.
Please make a great product. these features would make wrike a great product. I have seen posts from people that say these kinds of lack of basic functionality have stopped them from migrating to wrike. you don't know how many others have sought out other platforms. relying on popularity does not make the BEST product; it only makes a popular product. But we all know that popularity fades away, and substance is required for long term dedication.
Please implement this feature because it is a good and necessary feature.
Perhaps it would help if someone from product team could explain the barrier in implementing this? Is it simply a matter of a very long queue of functionality that is ahead of this one on your list, or is there a technical challenge to this feature, specifically? That kind of transparency helps a great deal!
When will this functionality be available? Being able to turn a task into a project like we can folders and projects would be extremely helpful!!
Can we also ad the ability to turn a task into a cheese pizza? I work late a lot and this would save on our takeout bill...
The option to convert a task into a project and vice versa is essential!
In my opinion, this shouldn't be too much of a development effort....
But will be a quick win for everyone.
Please move this request in your priority list.
Please fix soon! Always a friction point when working with Clients who are used to using Asana and have become dependent on this type of functionality. Makes it harder to easily convince them to migrate to or use Wrike for engagements.
This feature would be extremely beneficial for our team as well. We integrate with Outlook and Slack, so being able to turn these requests into projects would be great!
Thank you
+1 for me
