[Status: Backburner ⏳] Organizing Custom Fields

I have an issue that I wanted to add here to see if anyone else has the same experience.  My organization has created many custom fields that are associated with different folders.  We tag projects with these different folders based on the projects attributes, which causes the custom fields to become available for that particular project.  There doesnt seem to be any way to organize the order of the custom fields or to group them in the list view.  It would be great if we had the ability to add section headers or line separators in the custom field area in list view.  Am I the only one who has a need for this?

This should be on the FRONT burner, not the back.
We want to add users that will predominantly update custom fields from their phone ap - the sorting is a mess to say the least.

Please help.

This is how i see what needs to be done:

  • Sorting - no comment necesarry
  • Grouping - this should be done on "attribute" level not folder level to make it simpler, maybe named "Attribute Category". On Task/Tag itself this could be visible as a seperate collapsable region. Collapsable functionality would GREATLY help us. When implementing attribute categories they should also be sortable the same as attributes themselves (a unified sorting UI for both).
  • Option to show attributes on main menu - a special "MainBar" grouping/category, Attributes in this category should be always visible at the top right after system fields to make them first class citizens (without the need for expanding attributes).

I agree with all the users asking for the capability to, at the very least, rearrange the custom fields as we see fit.  Better would be to allow us to group and organize associated custom fields together (tabs or sections with break lines).

Haven't read each post, so forgive me if this has already been mentioned. This seems so simple to me. This is all about customizing data structures in ways that are meaningful to the user.

So many system functions hinge on custom fields. Analyze reports/widgets (which are fed to leadership) and automations, to name just two that stand out to me. The less meaningful the ways the CFs are ordered, it should be expected the lower quality data input you get. The lower the quality of input means the functions that depend on that input become less reliable/consistent. In our case, that means the reports we provide leadership are that much less trustworthy. Or the automations we have setup are that much less consistent.

Meaningful structure --> better data inputs --> better system performance --> higher value to business
