dates from subtasks are not rolling up to the main task
In the example, the start and end dates of the Project scope would start on the earliest date and then end on the latest subtask end date.
by making the dependent task, dependent on a subtask, it would cause a circular reference. I'm not sure how to make wrike see the latest date of the subtasks to reflect Project Scope is not one day. It goes from December 11 through December 26.
Hi Megan :) Glad that we're getting to talk today. Project dates are actually independent of task/subtask dates, so that you can specify a date that's outside of the scope of the tasks (for example if you're working towards a fixed end date). Would you like to see that type of functionality?
Hi Stephanie, Having Project dates tracked independent of task/sub-tasks is fine.
The functionality that I would like to see, and what I think Megan was also describing (please correct me if I'm wrong) is that it would be helpful for a task with multiple sub-tasks to behave more like how summary tasks behave in Microsoft Project.
In MS Project, a summary task shows the combined information of its sub-tasks. The Summary Task's start & finish dates are determined by its sub-tasks.
When using automatic scheduling, the summary task's start & finish dates are dictated by the earliest sub-task start and finish dates and are updated automatically. The summary task is also automatically marked as complete once all of its sub-tasks are completed.
Hi Scott, thanks for jumping in here. Just so I'm completely clear on your suggestion; would you like to see task's (not project's) start/end dates align with their subtasks start/end dates?
We do have subtask alignment feature which may be of interest to you.
Looking forward to your reply. Thanks 🙂

Additional request was made yesterday to have Wrike updated regarding Tasks with dependencies and subtasks.
Of course, the Project start and end dates would need to show correctly. As a Project Manager, I need to manage expectations to my project stakeholders. I'm relying on the Project Management tool to clearly indicate the timelines.
If task start and end dates are rolling up correctly, it should also roll up to the Project start and end date.
Hi Stephen, thanks for providing the link to the subtask alignment resource.
After reading through the Subtask Alignment page I think I understand why I was needing to manually change the parent task's start/end dates to align with its sub-tasks.
It appears that I would have been prompted to expand the parent task dates had the same parent task not been a part of any dependency chain.
@Scott, correct! That's part of what Megan's post is about, if you would like to add a 👍 there.
Hi there.
I'd like to weigh in with my thoughts on this functionality:
Please will you look into this, these changes would be major value adds
"One would also expect that a milestone date should automatically update where there are linked dependencies - and that it should update the parent task's dates"
Is this still a possibility? I have added the wrike lab extension for roll ups with is wonderful. however the milestone is not part of the roll up. I use blueprints so people can repeatedly reuse them and just refresh the dates. This gives them a nice overview of how a timeline should look as they start their project and estimated milestone (which is visually appealing too on gantt.)
Hi Tonya Urquizo, can you give me an example of the roll up not taking the milestone task into account? I've been trying to recreate this and the Gantt Chart is taking the milestone into the roll up. If you'd like me to raise a Support ticket for you then let me know 😊
Hi Hugh, let me see if I can recreate that issue. Thank you for the follow up!
Thank you for the kind words Tonya Urquizo! If you have any questions or need any more assistance, be sure to let me know.
