Importing Project Information
Hi,
I'm trying to import project information via excel, but the fields like "Start date", "End date" and some custom fields I added are not imported.
I would like to have these fields imported the same way the fields for a task are imported.
Even better would be when an ID can be part of the import so I can update the task/ project related to the ID.
Hi Elke, thanks for getting in touch here! Projects currently can't be imported via Excel, so the best option is to import them as a Folder and then add those attributes after you've imported the structure. To ensure that all those fields are imported for tasks, the XLS file should be formatted like our template, download the example template to check it out. Detailed importing instructions can be found in our XLS Export and Import article. Happy to help if you have any further questions about this! :)
Hi Anastasia,
I used the template and it works fine for tasks.
In Wrike I'm able to add fields in the table view on project/folder level, and these can be exported.
However when performing an import, those fields are not imported.
Example added
When I understand the reply correctly the functionality I'd like is not yet part of Wrike. Am I correct here?
Elke, yes, that's right, sorry for not being clear enough! It's currently possible to import any item, except for Projects. Thanks for bringing this up!
@Elke, good news!
Projects can now be imported!
Give it a go - any questions, let me know 😃
Hello. To import projects, is there a special format for the Title field? When I import using the sample excel file, Wrike is making the title a folder instead of a project.
Thanks;
Thomas
I'm getting the same issue as Thomas. When importing a Project, which fields need to be populated? I have the import structure as per the Wrike sample spreadsheet, with populated fields of Key (as number), Title (with leading and ending forward slashes) and Status (as green). The other fields are blank.
Update: I've managed to get projects importing. It seems that the rows are initially imported as folders, and only become projects if they are individually selected while in list view. Any idea on how to fix this?
I don't see any option to import projects although you guys say it has now been added. Can someone please offer a step by step for this? the excel sample file is still only folders and tasks.
Both our legacy systems (podio until 2015, then Scoro) worked at the level of "client > project > task" I like the idea of working the Wrike way in that we can do "Clients (space) > Client Name (folder) > project > task" however we currently have approximately 10,000 records at the project level so buying wrike will be impossible without an easy way to bring this across.
I am happy to set up custom fields etc to be populated by the import but we must be able to bring across ALL data from our old records before we can move.
So please, a guide on importing project data would be amazing now that it is possible, we only have 10 days left on our trial lol
Has the question regarding step by step for importing Projects with custom fields been answered anywhere? The last entry on this post is 07/15/2019. I really need to import a ton of old projects into an existing space that contains newer active projects for proper reporting purposes. I need title, description, and custom fields. The sample import file really doesn't tell me much of anything on how to do this.
Hi Jeanine Lore! Here's a Knowledge Base article on how to import projects and here's also how to format them. Please note that importing custom fields isn't currently supported.

Hello, we are running into an issue where duration/effort is not being imported. We have handful of users that utilize MS project. During the import, Wrike detects the correct assignee and task structure as expected but doesn’t import the effort (hours) inserted in MS Project. Are we possibly missing a step in the import process? I've searched knowledge base articles and am not finding anything on this.
Hey Nathan Kozlovsky, thank you for reaching out 👋 I've asked our Support specialist to contact you about this, and I can see they have emailed you.
Please let me know if there's anything else I can help you with 🙂

Nathan Kozlovsky Did you get your resolution to Wrike not importing Effort from Microsoft Project? I'm having same issue.
Hi Trish Mckinney, welcome to the Community! I'm afraid it is currently not possible to import effort through MS Project, this kind of data needs to be manually submitted. We'll be passing your feedback to our Product Development Team and will inform you in case there are any changes regarding this enhancement 👍
Hi is there any way to import data from excel without it getting duplicated every time
Hi Pranav Harikrishnan, welcome to the Community. When you upload data via Excel, you create new items. It is not possible to update or replace information using this method.
May I please ask you to elaborate on our use case so we can provide you with an accurate reply?
Also, I'd like to mention that you can check our New to Community forum to discover all the resources you can find in our Community 🙂
Hi Lisa, Is there a way to import "Effort" via Excel to the Project? If I export to Excel I can see the Effort, but if I update the numbers and import the values back to Wrike, they are gone.
Hi Michael Unangst! It’s great to see you here in the community! 🎉
That’s odd. I've checked on my end, and importing "Effort" via Excel works just fine. Please note that when you upload data via Excel, it creates new items; you cannot update or replace existing information using this method.
Could you let me know if you are still unable to import "Effort" values? I can raise a ticket on your behalf with our support team, who have the expertise to assist with this issue. Please let me know. 😊
