[Status: Not planned] Ability to merge tasks
I sometimes come across the situation when two (or more) different people, usually in different teams, set up separate instances of the same task. An example would be the creation of a piece of collateral for an event. The event team might set up a project for the event with a large number of tasks, one of which is to create a flyer. The content team might be independently briefed about the flyer, but not realize or notice there's already a task for it and create another one. If this isn't picked up early I end up with two tasks, each with comments, attachments, working hours, etc. from the respective teams.
I'd like to any easy way to merge two tasks, combining the comment streams, attachments, etc. There would need to be a mechanism for resolving date, status, etc. conflicts during the merge process.
Wrike team, do you have any update about this functionality?
It would be awesome.
Hi Dani Simões, welcome to the Community! Thank you for your comment, I'm currently checking for updates with the Product Team and will come back to this thread with an accurate reply soon 👍
In the meantime, please feel free to visit our New to Community forum to get the most out of your experience with our Community 🙂
If you have any additional questions, please let us know.
Hi everyone, at the moment we don't have updates to share about this feature, we will keep passing all your feedback on to our Product Team and we will keep you informed about any changes.
Thank you!
I'll add my voice to the many who want the ability to merge tasks and projects. I'm not sure if the issue of also merging the descriptions and comments in a single instance has been addressed, but that would be very valuable as well.
Hi Rick Herman, welcome to the Community 👋 Thank you for supporting this idea. Although it's not currently planned by the Product team, we continue sharing your feedback here with them and we'll let you know if anything changes in the future 🙌

I upvoted this years ago... it's a common-sense "feature" for an app that seeks to manage work and truly wants to simplify it.... AND with the use of AI to drive things, now there is literally no excuse for not fixing this gaffe.
I would like to remind the both the PRODUCT TEAM and Management that they advertise the following:
Instead of wasting time on train-wrecks such as the new "lightning" re-design which few customers actually wanted or even like, development needs to FOCUS on features that are actually requested in these boards instead of ignoring them. (NOBODY on these boards ever asked for a complete over-haul of the interface btw... ZERO requests for that.)
Speaking of that train wreck... the Product Team needs to allow users to select whether they are a manager of other's work, or are a worker bee. The worker bees can have this "lightning" interface and the managers can opt to go back to the old interface which actually made MUCH more sense and was MUCH better at viewing and managing work of an entire department or organization from a high-level perspective.
Thank you very much for taking the time to share your detailed feedback John Rakoczy. We value your opinion and please allow me to assure you that the Team does take all comments into account when building and shaping the future of Wrike. We’re sorry to learn that the major updates we’ve been introducing during the past months didn’t have the positive impact we intended in your case.
We completely understand this feature would be very useful for you and your team and Product is aware of its popularity. I’m afraid that not all suggestions can be implemented as quickly as we’d like to. However, we will keep you informed in case any improvements are made regarding this suggestion.
Please, don’t hesitate to let us know if there is anything we can do to help.
Thank you for your understanding.
John, thanks for making such a strong case for this much needed feature.
Juan, it would be good to know from Wrike:
-Whether this feature is even on your development list?
-If so, what the priority for it is?
-What aspect(s) of the request might be fulfilled? (Combining tasks vs. projects vs. folders, etc.)
-If you can't do this, what workarounds you might propose.
Thanks for your continued participation in this discussion Rick Herman 🙂
As the status of the main post above says, this idea is not currently planned by our team due to other planned priorities and the complexity of this suggestion. In other words, it's not on the product roadmap. However, our team is aware of this feedback and we continue sharing all new comments with them, so thank you for jumping on and adding your input!
In the meantime, it's possible to copy and paste the needed elements as well as make one of the tasks its subtask, depending on your use case.

Just adding my voice to this - it seems like this is quite a popular feature request!
Sure is Phil Taylor and we continue to gather feedback on this, so thank you for sharing yours! If there are any updates to share on this suggestion, we'll be sure to update this thread 👍

Administration - Shipway this is par for the course. There are approaching 1000 upvotes and posts to have view settings savable and Wrike gave us the ability to copy view one at a time from place to place. They want the facade of being customer driven but are not. I found that @ messaging the community "belted" members helps generate visibility but don't hold your breath.

Adding my voice as I'd love to see Merging as an option within Wrike.
This feature has 104 comments. Wonder how many it takes to get it going?
When?
Hi folks, we appreciate your interest, but for now we don't have any updates here.
It would be helpful if you shared your use case for this ability - how would merging tasks help you?

Lisa - Let's say I have a project open in Wrike and am adding tasks to it for team members. One of the team members creates their own project/task for something they need to do and uploads all of their documents to it, makes notes, etc. I discover this and want to MERGE their task into mine to avoid two projects out there/creating double work. Right now we have to manually download/re-upload everything, make sure all of the comments are accounted for, etc. Or - I have a yearly project...we update something every year. I may want a project for this year to focus on the tasks, but MERGE it into the master project for archiving purposes on the whole project over time. I can think of a multitude of other reasons to be able to do something so simple as merging. I have many spaces / projects / folders / tasks. Things get duplicated in error. Rather than having to manually merge, I would think this would be a feature that could have been easily added at some point in the last 7 years since mentioned.
An example for me/my team is: Our team will be proactive and create a Project for one of our companies (Example: Black Friday Sale: Email Campaign) so that we can begin the various tasks needed, and then, the manager of this store will submit a Request through Wrike for this campaign that includes all of the information needed to execute the campaign. Instead of being able to merge the two projects into one, we have to take everything from the Requested project and download, copy, etc. into the existing project.
For our teams, it's typically a duplicate task, with both tasks being worked on simultaneously and both having their history documented in the comments. Currently, we have to manually transfer all the documentation before canceling one of the tasks. Merging them would be much more efficient
Couldn't Wrike have an "alert" where a new task is flagged while it is being written (and the administrator) when elements seem duplicative to any that already exist? That is, the system could state "this task appears to duplicate task 00000000", then require the user to review said task in a new window, then click to either close the new ticket, or proceed.
111 comments over 8 years requesting pretty much the exact same feature. I'm curious:
-How this feature request rates with other requests that have been fulfilled regarding interest and longevity?
-How difficult this is to execute?
-What specific problems your coding people see in executing this?
-Does the development team need a formal specification written for this to evaluate it?
Appreciate your examples, everyone! I've sent them to the team responsible for Item view in Wrike.
We've discussed this feedback with them before and it would not be easy from the development standpoint. At the same time, we'll keep flagging any new feedback here with the team amd we'll let you know if we have any updates in the future.
Thank you!

Any update on this feature? I'll add my voice to the chorus calling for the ability to merge tasks.
Hey Andrew Packer! Thank you for checking in. I checked with our team, and it is currently not planned, but this may change in the future. We will definitely keep you in the loop with any updates. Thank you! 😊
