๐Ÿ”ต Releases - Blueprints and Custom Item Types Improvements, and a New Way to Sort in New Table View (09/19/2022)

Feature Updates

Before:ย When your Blueprint contained items with completed, deferred, or canceled statuses,ย these got reset to new/activeย when you created a new project from a blueprint.
Now:ย All statuses from your Blueprint items (including completed, deferred, or canceled) are kept when you create new project from it.

  • Blueprints - Maintain Date Rollup Settings ๐Ÿฆ‹

Previously if you initiated a project from a Blueprintย date rollups always got disabled. We didn't see any reason for this so now the date rollup setting is copied correctly into any new project created from a Blueprint.
In the Blueprints section, the date rollups still do not work correctly - project dates donโ€™t get updated. But worry not ๐Ÿ’ช, when you create a project from this Blueprint, it will work properly and you will no longer need to enable date rollups for every project after it is initiated.

In the New Table view (available via Wrike Labs๐Ÿ”ฌ) items, projects, and folders can now be sorted by Priority. This means users can drag and drop them into whatever order they choose when the sorting method is set as Priority.

When in Priority Sort, simply grab and drag an item outside of the Name column to place it between any other two items. Dragging over the name column will still allow you to place an item inside another.

Users can now set a default description as part of a Custom Item Type from the work item view editor. The description will appear in the item description each time it is used.

Images can also be added to a default description, they will appear in the description and in the item's files.ย

Hello, are the Custom Item Types really still in Wrike Labs? I do not see them there and thought that they are already released ๐Ÿค”

Petra Hauer What's your use case for the default description in custom item types? I just can't think of how that'd be helpful for my team, so I'm curious how you'd be using it to see if there is a use case for us as well. Thanks!

Cody Rogers I use Wrike primarly for requirements engineering. Means each requirement is based on a request form. The request form uses the different custom item types for creating new tasks (= requirements). These and other used custom item types sometimes have a standard description as information for the assignee.ย

Later on in the process a requirement gets subtasks for implementation, acceptance testing, resource planning etc. Each of this subtaks uses a custom item type which we map via wrike integrate (using webhooks and the IDs of the custom item types) to certain automized actions (eg generating a jira issue, adding folders and custom fields).

Furthermore we use Wrike for PRINCE2 projects. Certain tasks have a few headlines or informational text to help the project manager (eg status reports). Custom item types can help with this a lot.ย

We seldomly use blueprints as the have no kind of ID, not everyone uses them properly and that sometimes causes problems with automations. Copying existing tasks isn't always a good idea.

We have a wide range of different users. Making it easy and taking them by the hand can be essential

It's great that Wrike can now create tasks from Blueprints that are not active.
Unfortunately, this only works manually.
If I use a request form to trigger a Blueprint project, it doesn't work.
I'm looking forward to the correction which will surely come soon.

Can we get the Progress to also be enabled once the Blueprint is converted into a Project?ย

Hi John Kelso, it's not possible for now but I'm sharing the feedback with the team.

@... thank you for sharing John's feedback about keeping the progress bar enabled when a blueprint is converted to a project. I agree this would also make things MUCH easier. There's so many manual steps after initiating a blueprint. I'm sooooooo excited that the task statuses will be maintained now. This has already made my life so much easier. Thank you so much for this ๐Ÿ™‚

Getting inactive states when building from the blueprints works fine if done manually (note: it doesn't work via forms yet).
Conversely (in the direction of blueprints), the receipt of inactive statuses does not work in principle. ok, I don't need that very often...

Well, I really need the blueprints to work in the forms correctly. That's primarly how we use templates ... The input of the user in request forms defines which template they need.

Finally now it works well.

Thank you.

Now it is possible to generate not-active tasks out of Blueprints via request forms !

Cool !
