[Status: Investigating ๐ต๏ธโโ๏ธ] Automate Due Date Based on Task Status Change
The goal of this automation request is to reduce the amount of human interaction/error with task date changes based on known parameters and better predict project completion when specific tasks reach a certain status.ย Below I have laid out an example of how we would like this functionality to work:
We know from experience that packaging samples take 25 days from the time the files are submitted by our packaging team to when they are shipped by the factory.ย We have a custom workflow for our Packaging Design task.ย In an ideal world, once the status is changed to "ARF/Proof Sent, Awaiting Final" the due date for the task would be automatically adjusted to 25 days from the date that status change was made.ย This helps us predict when the final packaging will be complete, thus when we will be nearing production start.ย This also gives our purchasing team insight as to when the first PO should ship so they can plan logistics on containers and what will be loaded with each PO.

This would be a greatly appreciated automation that could help expand our Wrike usage to other departments within our organization.
Cheers!
This feature would also be very helpful for us.
We are currently struggling with project due dates, because most of the people who need to 'approve' final files etc. take longer than we'd like. So we meet our deadlines for all of our tasks, but then the review task due date always makes the project late. So we have to constantly push back theย project due date manually because we are waiting on an outside source for approval. This affects our reporting as well because it makes it appear that all of our projects are late, when really they were on time and the approver didn't get back to us in a timely manner.
Noted, thanks for sharing Nicole S.ย

This would be very beneficial for my team as well.ย Status and Due Date are a foundational element of task management, and they are often related.ย I very much believe that most organizations would benefit from this suggestion.
Thanks!!
Thank you for your feedback Caleb Thurman! This idea continues to be on our team's radar - we'll keep you posted on any future updates.

Adding my +1 to this request; it would also be really beneficial if we could support it counting back in time. For example, a request is filed and due date is 8th August. We know that the request will take us 1 weeks to finalize, so if the due date is the 8th, we'd need to start the work on 1st August.
This feature would make a huge difference.
I love seeing all the support for this request.ย @... Lisa Elaine, do you have a prediction of when this will move past the "Investigating" status?
Cheers!
Trevor
Hi all,
I'm checking in to see if there has been any progress on this suggested feature. Thanks!
I would love to know if there's been any progress as well.ย Thanks!
Hi everyone! Thank you for your continued support! Our Product Team has confirmed that they are actively working on this feature. As soon as we have any specifics, we will share the updates with you ๐
Hello! Any updates on this feature? I'm adding my use case here today, though I added my upvote some time ago. I wish I could upvote it again!
We have a workflow that starts out as a task created from a request form. The task is saved into a workspace where it waits to be assigned to one of several Artists by the Art Department's Team Lead. The task's default status is "Submitted" and based on choices made by the person who submitted it, it takes the form of a specific blueprint.
We would like the due date to be backlogged a certain number of days (based on each particular blueprint), but to only be set once the status has changed to an Active status when the task is assigned and an Artist begins working on it. So, for example, if an Artist has five days to complete a particular task, we want that due date to be five days from the moment the status is changed to "In Progress," not from when the task is "Submitted" and sitting in the queue to be assigned to them.
Without this functionality, our dependencies don't seem to work properly -- our Artists must create art assets before Prepress can add variable text and create proofs using those assets. Those proofs must be complete before Customer Service can send them to the Customer. We've created automations that change the statuses of the subitems and parent tasks so that each department is notified when the previous step is completed, but the due dates still read wrong.
Hi Michelle, thank you very much for taking the time to share your use case in such detail ๐ Please, rest assured that our Product Development Team is now aware of it and that we will keep you informed if there any improvements implemented.
At the moment, I'm afraid that we don't have any news to share about this option AC
