Recurring tasks created by users who are later deactivated

From what I can tell, recurring tasks that were created by a deactivated user no longer recur. So, it seems like whenever an employee leaves, we will need to identify any recurring tasks they created that should still recur, and recreate them from another still-active user account. That seems wrong...

If this is indeed true, how can we find all of the recurring tasks that need to be duplicated? I don't see any filters for recurring tasks in the reporting function or in any of the task filters.

Can anyone enlighten me on how recurring tasks created by users who are later deactivated are supposed to behave, and how to best ensure that they continue to recur?

Found this info in multiple places if it helps 😀

Thanks Julie. My problem is that this fix requires manual intervention... you have to know which tasks have to be manually resumed, and I can't find any way to identify recurring tasks created by a specific user.

This may not help at the moment but going forward someone else posted "I've been using a folder as tag called "Recurring" that way I can see all recurring tasks in place across my team."  His name is Justin and it was in the link I shared with you above.

I also tried looking if I could find something for you in dashboards and if I created my own widget there is a little recurring arrow that shows next to the items that are recurring if that helps.  You can add as many users as needed to find them all. :)

Thanks Julie.

The solution Justin came up, while an innovative workaround, doesn't solve our problem. This approach will work only if the user remembers to tag their recurring tasks, which is a pretty big "if".

We'll try the dashboard workaround in the meantime. I still consider this a workaround rather than a solution, as it requires you to review all tasks created by a user to identify recurring tasks by the little icon. This would work much better if we could filter by recurring tasks. I'll comment on this over in Product Feedback.

Again, thanks for the help!

Hi Laura,

I currently have the same problem and haven't been able to find any solutions, just to manually check tasks which is a pain!

Would love to see a solution for this, perhaps an option when running a report to see recurrences created by user.

I like the dashboard idea.  Could the Wrike team add Recurring to Task Type when one creates a custom Widget?

This is a really bothersome functionality - and we have no way to filter for it or otherwise address it when the user who created a recurrence is disabled or downgraded.  Ugh!

Others would also like to know as well, please? This could be a detrimental problem for project progress. Have there been any updates since August of 2020?

Hi Catherine Wetzel, currently, the only way is still to manually identifying the recurrent tasks. In the case of deletion of an account, the account owner/admin can choose another user to transfer the data of the deleted user.

Thank you. I look forward to hearing about a solution to a problem for any team who has any turnaround of personnel who are using Wrike and creating recurring tasks. Seems like something that could wreak havoc on the management and flow of project progress and information. And it just stops without warning....Or a sensible solution to identifying and addressing the problem?☹️ Hope there is an update soon.

I am also looking for a solution to this issue. Our team uses recurrences a lot and when a user from a specific team leaves, we have to go through a really tedious process of identifying the recurrences that users set up and then recreating them. Ideally I'd love to be able to transfer the authorship of the recurrence to another user before deactivating, as well as an easy way to pull a report of active tasks that have recurrences set up. This is something that our team is hoping for an update on so we don't have to do this manual process every time someone leaves.
