[Status: Backburner ⏳] Adding Progress Bar in Tasks

Hi,
I'm Kris Antoni from Toge Productions Pte. Ltd., a video game development studio based in Indonesia. My company has been using Wrike for project management and planning for over a year. We are also using Wrike as an OKR (Objectives and Key Results) tracking system.

It would be great if there's a Progress Bar feature in each Task so that teams or individuals can share and track progress on tasks. Just a simple bar with 0 to 100% where users can update and have it visible on the List, Table, and Timeline views.

This can be beneficial for tracking production as well. For example there's a task "Produce 100 boxes", the team can update/track how many boxes has been produced easily.

Here's a mockup of the Progress Bar

Project Progress is great, any update on task progress? I'd love to be able to have an assignee update the % complete field on their task and have that percentage roll up to impact the overall Project Progress percentage.

Hey everyone, as of now, the team is not planning on adding this in the short-term. This doesn't mean that it won't ever be implemented however! Once this post reaches 60 upvotes, this thread will be given a status to let you know what the current progress of the suggestion is. If you have any questions, let me know 😊

Hoping to see percent complete (either hand keyed or calculated off of effort vs actual) at the task level and it roll up to the overall project level. We have to just trust that tasks are progressing if not told otherwise by our project teams so it would be nice to have a feature like this to add an additional level of accountability and detail to the projects.

Task progress by percent complete is an essential need for the product.  Most useful is a simple entry for the percent complete as estimated by the task manager.  Secondarily, percent complete based upon actual hours versus planned hours is useable, however, this is much more time consuming and smaller companies don't typically track it down to this level sufficiently to manage the number of entries required for longer tasks.

I would suggest that Wrike develop this capability for tasks.

Not having a visual tool to indicate task status leaves the users to wonder about status (users can’t visually assess status without this capability) and forces all users to dig deeply into multiple tasks to understand status.

The “Project % Completion” metric, mentioned below, is too course to be meaningful in our opinion.

Thanks for considering it,

-Dan

+1 I am really missing percentage on the tasks, it is not excusable for such an expensive product not to have it. It must be implemented!!! :)

Please make sure when you add this feature to provide manual selection of percent complete on tasks as well as entering actual hours against planned hours to get to percent complete.  Both methods are needed depending upon individual company needs.

Just another user requesting this feature.  I as well have been accustomed to using it in Microsoft Project and Workfront.  Very important to ensure team members are not procrastinating.

Hey @...

We're also looking to implement OKRs at our organization and our COO has requested that I find a way to have percentage completion of tasks. I believe my update just pushed this thread over the 60 vote mark, any chance of an update?

Thanks!

Hey everyone, as this thread has reached 60 upvotes, the Product team has provided this suggestion with a status.

They are interested in this, but there are currently no plans to add this to the short-term roadmap. For that reason, I've added the status of "Backburner" here. If anything changes, I'll be sure to let you know.

Hi Hugh

My company has had two feature requests this quarter with over 60 votes that we've received this feedback that it's not slotted for development but the Dev team is aware.  How far out has the current "short term road map" being worked?  In other words, is there hope we can get some of these added in Q3 2020 or are we looking further out this may be considered?  I'm concerned as I see many customers have asked for Task Progress since 2018 and haven't seen traction.  How many other "backburner" requests are there?   Trying to set realistic expectations as having Task Progress will help us tremendously.

1) Progress on Tasks:   We are rolling out OKRs in June 2020 and until this feature is developed Wrike is not the ideal tool to track OKRs.  Can your Dev team give us an update as to when they will next add requests to their road map?    I'm rolling this out to 130 people next month, so would love to give them an answer as to time frame this may be rolled out.  Many will ask, including my executive team.   Right now, only the project has Progress functionality, which doesn't show the level of detail needed to track against 3 strategic objectives (Tasks) each with 3 strategic measurable Key Results (sub-tasks).

2) Is there a way now to use a calculated field to average progress of a task (based on it's sub-tasks)?   Or would it be manual until your team develops this functionality?  An example below where I created a custom field of "OKR-Progress, %" and added % to the sub-task but do not know how to roll up progress on the Task level.

Thanks for helping let your Dev team know this functionality is extremely important to many businesses to automatically track progress without manual efforts or mistakes.

Hey Wendy Pardo, thanks for reaching out! Hope you don't mind me jumping in for Hugh here.

The Backburner status usually means that the team likes the idea and would like to implement it, but can't fit it in their plans right now. We can't give any ETA here as the team hasn't made the decision to take this on. So the feature isn't going to be implemented in the coming months. I understand this can be disappointing, but at least you have transparency on the statuses. More info on them can be found here: https://help.wrike.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360014354593--Read-Me-Product-Feedback-forum-Guidelines-and-Statuses

i am currently assessing the use of wrike for managing the projects at our company and as beautiful as wrike is visually, a progress percentage (entered manually for the subtasks or tasks by the assignee, with progress on the tasks they contribute to calculated and visible on all forms where progress is shown, including in the timeline) is a deal breaker for us...and i am sure for quite a few others.

wrike is losing to the competition because of this. project management means very little if you cannot say where a task is at any particular point in time.

eglan

Good morning guys,
I just want to join the other people here to request for a task progress feature.
In my opinion this is truly needed by anyone planning activities. It should be both manually set or automatically calculated as an option.
The technical department of my company has just started to use Wrike, and the first request from our PM guys was about task progress.
Please make your best efforts to add this feature.

Sincerely,

Marco

Most the projects we work on beg a progress bar in the tasks.... as this helps visualize OKR.   Love to get a feel for when Wrike will add this feature to the platform.   I see this has been an outstanding dialog for 2 years?

Thank you for your attention to this.

Hello everyone,

The task progress feature would be very important also for reports.

If a have many subtasks is usefull to see the progress on the main task.

Now i see just the status "in progress" even if 99/100 of the subtasks are completed.
