Timelog "parent folder"
Is there any possibility to comeback to the old timelog view (it's no more available in the labs)???
Your new timelog export breaks all my excel macro ...
Before, when I exported to excel the timelog entries from the top folder, the "parent folder" contained the full path of the parent folder. For example, it could be "Projects/Project 1/sub project1/".
Now, the column contains only "sub project1".
Then, if I have many projects with the same subproject names, I can't know the name of the root project.
For example, if I have two big projects named "Project 1" and "Project 2", and in each of these projects have a subproject named "Firmware", when I export the timelog entries I have now :
"task 1", 9:00, "comment 1", "Firmware"
"task 2", 4:00, "comment 2", "Firmware"
Before, the same export gave me :
"task 1", 9:00, "comment 1", "Projects/Project 1/Firmware"
"task 2", 4:00, "comment 2", "Projects/Project 2/Firmware"
This is critical to our work. Our billing is done based on hours. Those hours are attached to a job number. That job number is noted in the top folder name. Without the export containing the top job folder name, we cannot associate the hours to a job number. We cannot then bill.
Let me also add to this the removal of hours reporting as decimals. Please add that back or at least figure out some way when it is exported that it shows up in Excel not as time of day. I shouldn't have to write formulas to convert time of day to decimals.
Please do this!!! I use the folder path for my reporting and the new report does not give me the info I need. Please change it back!!!
Our team also uses the full folder path for many functions. How could they make this change without communicating?
Hi guys, thanks for your valuable feedback on this. I've passed this post directly the Product Team. When I have more information to share I'll post back here 👍
Hi there,
For my part, i need to analyse cumulative timelog on the top folder of a tree view. The "parent folder" concept is not effective when the tree view is too large.
Fred
Hi guys, speaking with the Team, they're aware of this change and it's due to change back soon. I don't have an ETA but it shouldn't be long - I'll post back here as soon as I have some more information. Thanks again for raising this here!
THANK YOU, I'll join this request for additional user context -- we export our hours every month and use Power BI to feed dashboards and reporting. We parse the folder string to categorize the time (that's why we don't need or intend to use the new timelog category feature). We also like the decimal time column vs the hours and minutes alone.
Total surprise to us as well, and that's never a nice thing for a project manager. Please please please telegraph future changes to output structures, you're essentially changing the API to numerous unknown dependencies...
Thanks for innovating, please bring us along!
Hi everyone, quick update:
The Product Team have reviewed this feedback and they have reverted back to the older format of the Timelog Excel Export.
Again, thank you for providing your feedback and opinion here which influenced that decision 🙌
Any questions, let me know!
Thanks for bringing back the much needed feature. Could you do the same for the Timelog Report export?
Please bring back the ability to just print the Timelog report - I capture my staff hours doing this and exporting to Excel just adds another step.
