New Dashboard - My Active Tasks

New Dashboards have changed how "My Active Tasks" are shown, and I'm wondering if there's a way to show it the old way?

With the old dashboard, the "My Active Tasks" widget grouped tasks by which are active on a given day, even if they aren't due that day. This is how the "My to-do" tool works, and it can be helpful for setting priorities for a given day.

The new widget provides a "break by" option (which is a good option to have!), but does not appear to provide an option to achieve the functionality of the old dashboard.

As a result, My Active Tasks now looks and acts completely differently. This can be good for some situations,  but I would like an option to see all tasks that are active on any given day.

Is there a way to accomplish this with New Dashboards?

Hey Ian! Can you please help me understand how the classic view is beneficial to the new one? The list of tasks is essentially the same, and the grouping reflects the urgency (due date) of tasks so you can clearly see what needs to be done today, tomorrow, or next week.

Hi Vladimir!

Frequently, I have important, urgent tasks that need a little bit of focus each day to make sure I can meet the deadline. Being reminded of that being an active task for a given day helps me determine if I should reschedule another, less important task so I can dedicate some time to the bigger, more important task.

The new dashboard may bury that important, urgent task in the list, because the due date may be several days away. But I better not forget about it, because there's no way I'll be able to get it done at the last minute!

Does that make sense?

Thanks for the clarification, Ian! How do you define importance, then? The idea of sorting/grouping is to prioritize tasks over a specific field, and commonly, it's a due date. Like you work first on tasks that are due sooner and then on tasks that are due later.

Currently, not specifically tracking importance -- although that may be something I do eventually. I can do it easily with a gut check of all the tasks that are currently active.

For now, I just want to have an option to arrange "My Active Tasks" like it previously did: show ALL tasks that are active on a given day, arranged from earliest due date to latest.

Ian, you can achieve that by filtering tasks by Status Group = Active, To Do Date = This Week and sorting them by Due Date in ascending order

Almost, Vladimir -- but it still doesn't provide the same functionality as the original widget or of the remaining My To-Do.

Both of those group by work day and show all tasks that are active on each day. For example, here is how My To-do shows today's tasks. As shown, it includes tasks that are due in the future but that are also active today.

Ian, I'm sorry but I don't get you then. The proposed filter setup does exactly the same thing. It shows tasks that are active within a specific time frame (today, this week etc.). You don't want to see overdue tasks or what?

It's okay Vladimir - I'll keep trying!

The proposed filter setup is missing one part: it doesn't provide grouping by the active work day.

The previous widget grouped by: today, tomorrow, this week, etc.

  • For "today," it showed all overdue, all tasks due today, and all tasks that are active today (but due in the future).
  • For "tomorrow," it showed all tasks due tomorrow.
  • For "this week," it showed all tasks due this week after tomorrow.
