Automation on All Subitem Task
I am trying to automate ALL (not just direct) subtask if the main task is changed.
If I change the main task to Completed, ALL subtask will change to Completed ... as Wrike will ask you and you can confirm.
However, I want to change the main task to NEW and ALL subtask change to NEW as well. It will only change the direct subtask and not all. I'm not seeing an option for ALL verses Direct.
What am I missing?

Hi Shelly Erickson,
what do you mean by "It will only change the direct subtask and not all"?
Pietro Poli Here is an example (visual is easier for me to explain). I change the top task (00A. Program Go Live Date) to Completed. Wrike ask if I want all subtasks marked as Competed and I respond yes.
ALL subtask task are changed automatically:
I then have a Program Go Live Date change and I want to mark all the subtasks to New as all dates will need to update, so I change the 00A. Program Go Live to New and using the automation in my post above, the only subtask that will change is the DIRECT one:
I'm trying to automate it so that all will change to NEW like below without manually having to do them all:
Any ideas? Am I missing an automation option somewhere?
Hi Shelly Erickson,
you're right, automation action can move only direct subtask statuses (see image).
So you cannot achieve what you need.
The problem lies in the fact that the result of an automation does not become the trigger for an automation otherwise it would have worked.
I ask Lisa if she reports a possible new action in automations, namely that not only directly linked subtasks can undergo a status change but also nested subtasks.
thanks
Hi Shelly Erickson. As Pietro Poli points out, currently it is not possible to achieve this via Automation. I've moved your post to our Product Feedback forum so that other users can upvote your idea 👍
Our Team is constantly adding new actions and triggers and, although we don't have updates on this option at the moment, we will inform you in case there are any improvements implemented 🙂
Thank you @.... As a workaround, I removed all the sub-sub task so there are so direct sub task but had to play with naming and redo all my predecessors. Thank you!
I encounter the same issue. I would not prefer to use a work around of not using sub items anymore. Is there already a resolution planned that a automation will also be triggered based on a status change of an automation?
No Simone Darphorn, no way to to this with standard automation tool.
You can do it by using Wrike Integrate, that allow you to go deeper in folders and subtasks.

This is rather frustrating as if the parent object gets cancelled, for example, everything under (whether direct sub-item or sub-sub item) should reflect the change as well. This is the use case I am facing as now I need to create two automation rules; an additional one to target the sub-item.
I would say maybe there is a time and place we'd want to only change direct sub-items, so I would propose deleting this existing rule entirely, but it would be very beneficial to have one for "Change all subitem statuses".
Thanks!

Upvoting. We also see this issue regularly when using automations for an on-hold or cancelled status.
