Reviews and Approvals for the Google Drive Suite

At my organization we often want to approve copy that lives within Google Docs and slides that live in Google Slides. Currently, you can "attach" the Google files to a project or folder but you cannot attach them to a review/approval. For a marketing team that typically reviews copy and then creative within a single Wrike workflow (which has been AMAZING for other types of documents), this is a real hang up.

I do not need to be able to provide feedback via the native Wrike tools as Google has a great commenting feature already, but without being able to attach the files it makes it difficult to keep our projects within the proper workflow stage and for reviewers to know what they're actually reviewing. Other users have also posted about an integration like the one for Adobe CC—I feel that's likely not necessary, but I would take that over no functionality at all.

In its current state, being able to attach Google Drive files seems to be a nice to have for easy access but is at odds with how nearly every other type of file is processed and used for reviews.

I second that. I'm sure it's because in google docs it is a 'live' document. It would be great if there was a way to do some type of 'snapshot' of the doc once its approved, and be able to attach that.

I am feeling this as well. We keep everything in our google drive including large video files. We need to be able to get approvals for them but either I have to now create a whole new YouTube channel for Works in progress and add multiple uploading steps or I have to purchase a ton more space because we have to upload it into wrike. It makes more sense to me that a video file should be able to live in Google drive and then be sent through the approval process in Wrike.

I've added my upvote. And will add:  it's more than a bit deceiving to have marketed the heck out of your "Google Drive Integration" (https://www.wrike.com/apps/file-storage/google-drive/ and "Shared users can view, edit, and collaborate on documents in real-time from home, work, or across the world.") ....  yet it's impossible to route a Google Doc for review.

Again, we find ourselves frustrated because a core component that we required (equality between Microsoft and Google files) and used during our decision-making process is actually absent from the product.  Caveat emptor, I guess.

Thanks a lot for sharing your feedback Juliana Slye! While we don't state anywhere in those resources that reviews and approvals are available with our Google Drive integration, I totally understand your need and feedback here. Our Product team is aware of this suggestion and if anything here changes in the future, we'll make sure to let you know.

Here's a workaround I discovered for our copywriting team to be able to take advantage of the approval decisions feature and our workflow automations:

  1. When starting a task, create Google Doc by going to ‘Add files’ > Google Drive > Create new file > select Document and add file name.
  2. Right click on the Google doc you just created/attached and click ‘copy file permalink’
  3. Click ‘Add files’ again > select ‘Website link’ > paste the link copied in step 2 (you should now see a second attachment)

  4. Change task status to 'Pending Feedback' to trigger the approval to the task author
  5. When prompted, check the box next to the web link item you attached in step 3 and click Done

  6. In approval window, stakeholder(s) will see a button to go to the Google doc where they make comments or suggest edits as they normally would in a Google doc
  7. After reviewing and adding comments, if needed, in the Google doc, stakeholder returns to the approval window and clicks either the 'Approve' or 'Changes required' button

It's a few extra manual steps but they're outweighed by the benefits of being able to automate the stakeholder approval and trigger additional automations based on the approval decision buttons.
