Dynamic Bookings Feature for Professional Services
Bookings are missing some critical features to make it a robust resource allocation tool. One should be able to assign budgets to a project and then assign resources to that project. The project timeline is already inputted into Wrike in on the project level or Gantt view. Once resources start logging hours towards a particular project the bookings should alter accordingly based on when the project completion date is.
So for example, Let's say we have a 5-week project and a budget of $5,000 for the project (all of this data is already inputted on the project level). Then we assign resources to that project, let's say a Project Manager at $100 per hour, bookings will initially say that this resource can work 50 hours on this project over the next 5-weeks. Now let's say that the Project Manager logs 40 hours towards that project in the first week, the booking for that resource should automatically update and say that the Project Manager can now work 10 hours on this project over the remaining 4-weeks. This will dynamically free up this resource to take on more work without any extra data entry. It's all based on the information Wrike already has. Furthermore, you could set project priorities so Wrike could effectively layout a booking strategy for an entire team, across multiple projects.
I'd like to add that I would like for bookings to set dates based on the project the booking was made in. Currently bookings needs to manually set the dates even though it is connected to a project with a schedule and I am concerned that if the schedule changes the bookings will need to constantly be updated accordingly.
Andre Herrero I have been asking for this feature on Workloads for over a year. Same example, if I have a resource working on a task that has 40 hours of effort over 4 weeks, and they haven't done much work until the third week, the remaining effort per day should adjust for what is left to accomplish over the amount of time remaining.
Currently, the workload is only based on planned effort, not real world remaining effort. So if someone is late on getting started, it still only shows the same amount of hours per day on their plate unless you constantly, manually update the flex effort assignments.
This is a missing feature in Wrike. You can see a plan of effort, and you can see a timesheet or report of how many hours you have done, but there is no tie to see what the real workload is based on the work time that has been logged.
Jason Pontius it's a total no-brainer for proper resource allocation! Wrike needs to get on this! How do we make it happen? Either bookings or effort needs to dynamically update in the workload view based on actual work done (ideally both!) Currently, we just can't use the workload or resources view because they don't reflect real-world conditions of the project, and it is too much work to constantly be monitoring this and changing efforts or bookings manually based on the available hours or budgets left over. PLZ WRIKE 🙏 this would be a GAME CHANGER!
Hello Andre Herrero, Jason Pontius, Cansu, I've been trying to adopt Workload for my individual scheduling and time allocation (graphic designer on a small team). I'd like to connect with another user who can show me their use case so I can learn some best practices. Seems like I'm missing (or Wrike is missing) some key fundamentals. Let me know if any of you are interested in scheduling a call. I can provide more detail on how I work and what I'm trying to do. Thanks! Rebecca
Rebecca Schoefer Workload charts can be very helpful, but there are definitely some shortcomings. I would be happy to help you out to the best of my ability. I am US EST time zone so drop me some times that would work for you.
Thanks.
Welcome to the Community Rebecca Schoefer! 👋 I'll be passing on your questions to your Wrike account's Customer Success Manager, they should be able to help 👍
Please let me know if I can help you with anything else!

Jason Pontius - I'd love to hear how youve leveraged Workload & Bookings. This thread is by far the closest use case to what my team is looking to solve for! LMK when you may have time to connect.
Caroline Suh Bookings is not included in our service plan. I looked at them during the Beta, but no longer have access to them.
We do use Workload charts, and as my post above reflected, there is a missing feature in Wrike that would reflect the remaining workload not the planned workload. There is no good workaround for this. Wrike in general lacks a tie between assigned work and real world progress of that work.
I am very slammed at this time and will be out of town on a project for the next few weeks, so best case to schedule some time to discuss would be first week of December.
Thank you.
