Link to directly open email from Wrike

Howdy

Omnifocus had a great feature for dealing with email-related tasks. If you forwarded the email into Omnifocus, you'd get a link back to the original email in the task. You could click that link and then the email would open in your preferred client. This would be super-useful within Wrike.

Hi Nate, thank you for sharing this request! If you have a chance, I'd love to hear a bit more about the use case this would be helpful for. It's always really important for us to understand how certain additions could help with different workflows. :)

Hi Anastasia

For me it's helpful for deferring email responses I can't answer in two minutes. If I can quickly send them into my Wrike backlog, I can process further or delegate from there.

In Omnifocus, was really useful to have a hyperlink directly back to the original email from the task This let me click on the link and it would open that email in Outlook. From there, I could forward or reply.

Currently, it's great to have the email body in Wrike but a one-click link to go back to one's email client and open that email would be awesome.

All this said, I seem to recall this being a combination of Omnifocus' extensibility and some sort of third-party Applescript.

Hope that helps!

This would be very useful. Also to be able to attach emails to tasks (in the drafts folder of outlook for instance).

The case:
I have a task "write email", and I start a email and link it to the task. I can then open the email (which is drafts) and continue writing it but clicking the link from the task. Just as you do with any word, excel or other file.

Hi Nuno, thanks for your post. I think this is an interesting use case for our Outlook integration. Thanks for sharing here, we'll be sure to pass this back to our Product Team and if there are any updates soon I'll post here.

Hi just wondered if there is any update on this.? I am currently trialling wrike with outlook and immediately had this concern! If I create a task in wrike - how do I find the original email (from within Wrike). A permalink back to the original email is essential. Also once an email has been added to wrike, there doesn't appear to be any indication in outlook that the email has been added to wrike. Perhaps a highlighted wrike icon on the email would be handy etc.

This is very necessary to bring back. We need to be able to drag and drop emails into an existing task, so it is added in a way that that email is added as an attachment and when I click on the attachment it will open the entire email and any in thread in our email provider.

Forwarding the email to a task (or emailing it to wrike@) is not a solution, as it adds the email as a messy comments post. Would be very happy to see this functionality return.

Streak does this really well. We are currently using a workaround to leverage both tools. Can someone else look at streak and see if either integrating streak or using the same vendor they use for email sharing would would solve this in Wrike? Ideally the wrike gadget would share the email thread or email and add attachments to the task through the gmail add-on.

If you are working on a project, it is important to keep everything in one place and this is what I had been doing by being able to click and dragging an email into Wrike.  Not having the function anymore or having to use a workaround hasn't been easy.  This is the main reason I began using Wrike.  I am currently looking at other options, instead of using Wrike.

We could really use this feature - it creates an extra step if you turn an email into a task, but then have to hunt through your inbox to find the e-mail again. You should be able to jump right from the task to the e-mail - much like you can already jump right from the e-mail to the task.

Upvoted as well.  Since the Gmail add-on only creates new tasks (as opposed to updating existing) it means the task IS the email.  I need the direct link back to the email thread, which very likely had new responses since the creation of the task.

We use Gmail in Spark by Readdle as work around for this because you can get adirect shared link. Perhaps a solution would be a two way integration between the two where a wrike permalink is posted in the comments section for the email in Spark and a spark permalink is entered into the description or comments section of Wrike.

Hi Lisa,

Is the use case not intuitive?  Wrike supports creating tasks from an email.  Email threads continue after the task is created, and many tasks will involve responding to or referencing this ongoing email thread.  A direct link enables a quick return to the source without needing to search email.

Agree with Darren - this is a very specific request, so I think there is only going to be the one specific use case: being able to return to e-mail directly from a Wrike task. The idea being to cut down on manually searching for the e-mail. It's difficult for our users to see the point of using the Gmail gadget when it doesn't save them time in resolving e-mails.

I am a devotee of David Allen's Getting Things Done (gtd). I am currently using the ToDoist app for my gtd system. It has an Outlook Add-in which allows me to select a message and then click on the ToDoist Create Task button and voila I've got a new Task with the email Subject as a url in it. In the Outlook Add-in, if I click on the link, it opens the task.

We are doing a trial of Wrike for use organization-wide. If we proceed with purchasing Wrike, I will be moving my gtd system from ToDoist to Wrike as I have to have only one source of truth.

It also needs to be able to find the message if it has been moved to a different folder from where the Task was originally created. I can provide some technical guidance as the key to getting this functionality right is getting the message's UUID.

The functionality to create Tasks from messages and have a link to the message in the Task is critically important.

I need this "back link" for certain conditions:
- most of my tasks are sent by e-mail, by colleagues who are not members of my Wrike team.
- if the task can be processed within the day, I don't need to transfer to Wrike, I process the task, and answer directly.
- if the task requires more development, I transfer to Wrike.
- once the task is completed, I must communicate it to the requester.
- for that, I have to access the original message, to write a reply.
   A. If I have the link, I can archive the message after forwarding it to Wrike, it frees my inbox and my mind. And to answer, I quickly access it by simply clicking on the link.
   B. If I don't have the link, I must keep the message easily accessible, either keep it in the inbox (cluttered), or move it to a waiting folder. I have to look for this message to answer him, it's a waste of time.

I am just testing Wrike out and this is for sure a feature I would love to see. Asana does this feature well, It includes the body of the email nicely formatted in a comment for the task created by the email and has a link back to the original email at the top of the comment. (Using the Gmail Add-on). The only improvement I would like to see is the ability to add individual responses (emails) within the thread as separate tasks.

I'm really surprised this isn't getting traction. The Outlook integration should be bidirectional, like it is in other apps, such as those mentioned above. We moved to Wrike to eliminate external task lists, but if I can't get back to the original Outlook email to respond when a task is finished, it's not worth the hassle of putting them in Wrike in the first place, as it's not saving effort.

And if it's not saving effort, and not acting as a single consolidated view of my tasks...

Upvote x100. Surprised that 6 years on from the original request, Wrike cannot figure out how to integrate. Particularly as this feature comes as standard with competitors.

This feature is essential for an efficient workflow. At the moment creating tasks from email only partially works as you have to manually search through old emails in Outlook to complete.
