[Status: Investigating ๐ต๏ธโโ๏ธ] Paste multiple tasks or sub-tasks
When copy/pasting multiple lines of text into a Task or Sub-Task field, I would like each line to be added as a separate Task or Sub-Task.
ย
e.g. When I Copy/Paste the following:
ย
Task 1
Task 2
Task 3
Task 4
etc
ย
At the moment, all of the text stays within a single task/sub-task title field.
Jonathan is right. We took our 45 users to a different platform about six months after I commented on this in 2017. Dunno how much it will cost for Wrike to eventually implement this change, but I bet it is less than we were spending on Wrike per year.
This really would be a very useful feature to me for sub-tasks especially.ย
Maybe Wrike is reluctant to implement this kind of capability because of performance considerations of the database back-end or user interface if it became so easy for users to create lengthy lists of tasks so easily?
This is kind of crazy that it takes 60 votes for basic functionality to be added. I'm a new user and while I have muddled my way through and there are a lot of very nice features but nothing that has to do with bulk entry (meaning more than one at a time) is efficient or intuitive.
+1 to add this functionality please. I have to enter over 500 rows for multiple spreadsheets into Wrike manually as we are trying to get all of our forms into Wrike.ย
+1.
This has +51 Requests in addition to another +9 on Josh's thread which was merged into this one = 60.
If you take into account how many commentors have left Wrike due to this lacking functionality, that number would be much higher than 60.
Can you please address it?ย
Can this PLEASE be addressedย
Bobby, exactly the same point I was making back on May 14!
Merab, I wouldn't hold my breath on this being addressed.
I've moved on from using Wrike because this is such a limiting factor in the ease and efficiency of using Wrike as a true project management tool.
Wrike, it's not like the community is asking you to turn Wrike into a power-user type platform like MS Project, JIRA, or the like with some highly technical and complex feature such as auto-leveling, resource allocations, or critical path evaluation. This is a simple request and should, in fact, just be seen as correcting an oversight in the design that should have been there from the beginning.
The request has reached 60 votes!!! @Lisa https://help.wrike.com/hc/en-us/profiles/367187107974-Lisa
Time for my annual check in on my post. Thanks for all your support everyone. Hopefully we're getting someones attention!
A really easy to use Import wizard would/could make up for this lack of functionality....... and fix the fact that importing ne data into existing datasets is pretty horrible. Don't get me wrong, I'd still love the ability to copy in multiple tasks at once, but making imports easier would be a good stop-gap for me on this one. Lines on spreadsheet > select import > select folder or tasks where you want them to go..... done.
This would be such a helpful feature, making the process more efficient.
Hi everyone! This suggestion is definitely getting attention. I've checked with the Product team and this is currently not planned, but I'll keep checking regularly and I'll let you know when I have an update, as the "Not planned" status doesn't mean this suggestion will never be implemented.ย
Thank you for your support!ย

Hi all,
I have a workaround for this since it seems they aren't going to add this obviously necessary and SUPER BASIC feature.
Create Project "TASKS TEMPLATE" - add your desired tasks.
Duplicate Project "TASKS TEMPLATE" and rename it "TASKS TEMPLATE 2"
Select all Tasks in TASKS TEMPLATE 2
A menu should come up on the right (or it may require a right-click after multiple task selection).ย Anyhow, see screenshot for this one.
Choose MOVE TO and then choose the Project you want these tasks moved to.
Delete TASKS TEMPLATE 2 (and keep original TASKS TEMPLATE for future use)

I'm new to Wrike.ย
I was completely surprised this functionality is not standard.ย I work by pasting lists into tasks or subtasks often.ย ย
I look forward to hearing about the addition of this feature soon.

Hi Jamez, welcome to the Community!
Thank you for this feedback. It's been passed on to the Product team. I don't have an update for you, but as soon as I do, I'll let you knowย ๐
+1 for this proposal. it is a very basic feature which is extremely helpful
This will literally be the determining factor for whether we switch to Wrike from Smartsheet. Everything else about using Wrike is much more user-friendly but since my company has to perform the same actions (subtask) on every single asset (task) within a project, the number of hours it would take me as PM to build out a project is INSANE without this feature. My company creates e-learning courses, so for every slide/screen in the course, we have to:
@...ย is there any update on this? I'm in my two week trial right now.
Every once in awhile, I get an email notifying me that someone else has posted on this thread. Christina Murray, you might as well spend the remainder of your two-week trial learning about (a) Ways to make Smartsheet work harder for you since you already are familiar with the tool, or (b) research other project management tools. Since this thread goes back to at least 2017, I can assure you that Wrike has no intention of taking any action on implementing this basic feature.
Hey everyone, thank you for all of your feedback here.
Christina Murrayย I would recommend using Blueprints to help save time with creating Projects. You could create a Blueprint with all of these tasks and sub-tasks and create a project based on this Blueprint when you begin work on a new course. You can enable Blueprints in Wrike Labs.
In relation to the original response, one possible workaround could be using copy and paste in the Table view. You could copy the text you're looking to move, quickly create tasks in the Table View of the desired folder / project, and then paste all of the information from the tasks you've copied into this view. This will rename all of the tasks that you've created in the Table view, as this feature works through multi-line pasting.
Hope this helped! If you have any other questions, be sure to let me know.
I am also very frustrated that this feature does not exist and equally surprised that this thread is this old. We switched from Monday and it allowed multiple lines of text to copy as multiple tasks.
@Hugh - I'm sorry but your "possible workaround" does not achieve what everyone on this thread is looking for. We are not looking to copy tasks from within Wrike to create more tasks in Wrike. We are looking to copy multiple lines of text from literally any other application into Wrike and have it create multiple tasks in one paste.ย
I was the third person to comment on this chain. I switched my company from Wrike to Monday.com and it was a disaster. Wrike is vastly superior, but the lack of this feature is truly mind-boggling. I know that Wrike is constantly adding new features, but this seems like a low-complexity task, and somethingย that would be hugely valuable. My team has moved on from Monday (truly awful, didn't even have dependencies, nested hierarchies, Gantt charts or anything that you would want for project management) to another provider. We are quite happy there, but I might consider coming back if this and one or two other things get fixed. Heck, that's why I still follow this thread even though we left Wrike early 2018.
Hey all-just throwing in my 2 cents, being the new gal in town...and I'm getting kind of sad about it.
Can someone on your team please please please write code for this basic functionality in this system?ย Legit copy & paste.ย It will take me a month or more of importing tasks/subtasks & setting up my project without this feature...back to the drawing board. please please help.

Hi Maria Finkbiner, they'll probably never actually add this functionality, lol.ย BUT hopefully you saw my workaround above (just CTRL-F my name).ย It works and it saves a LOT of time.ย Still wish they'd add the functionality of course!
My workaround (hopefully someone finds this helpful) for this situation is as follows:
1. Create project with any necessary structure and a sample task so that you can copy the required attributes (workflow, status etc.) Getting the attributes and folder structure right is generally the trickier bit, so examples help a lot in your export to see how the structure works.
2. Export to Excel.
3. Paste in tasks or create as necessary.
4. Save and import back into Wrike. FYI Wrike will treat all items as new, so you will need to delete any items that you don't want a duplicate of. In the example below, after import I have a dupe of "Sample task"
Hi @...ย and Lisa!
ย
I'm also jumping on this thread with a +1. I'm finding more and more need for a quick copy paste of a short list from a mind map export or an email thread, where I definitely can't justify the number of steps to create an importable excel. Would definitly love to select a line (add multiple tasks), hit ctrl-v and have each line of text pasted fill the title of a new task.
ย
Thanks for continuing to discuss this with the product team for a feature that has become a must have because of its inclusion in the many other options on the market.
ย
Thanks!

Hey Ryan Miller,
Thank you for sharing this use case! Input like this is invaluable to our Product team when they have conversations about suggestions such as this one. I don't have an update for you at the moment; as soon as I have any new information in relation to this, I'll be sure to keep you posted.
If you have any other feedback or questions, let me know!
I would like to see this function added. We have people building project plans in MS Project because they can cut a paste tasks in and build a draft schedule in a very short time. We would rather create a Blueprint schedule by cutting and pasting tasks from the project estimate created in Excel. The excel import is to clunky for most of our users. Thanks
