ASAP vs ALAP
In scheduling a project sometimes tasks are best completed As Soon As Possible (ASAP) and other times As Late As Possible (ALAP). In Microsoft Project, OmniPlan and other Project Planning softwares this is a default, easy feature to toggle. It is very useful.
Hi Leo, welcome to the forums! When you duplicate a Folder/Project, you have the option to reschedule tasks and set the last task end date (and then all the other tasks are rescheduled accordingly). I think this might help with the ALAP functionality, but please let me know if you were envisioning it working somewhere else?
Can you please elaborate on how to accomplish the ALAP mode? I am trying to build a timeline for the project with a known duration and a set due date way in the future. I want to start just in time (not too early) to get it done by the due date. (Say, my project consists of 3 consecutive tasks that take 2, 3, and 4 days, respectively. The deadline is one year from now.)
@Alexei, Hey, welcome to the Community, happy to see you here 🙂
Sorry if I misunderstood you, but you can easily create a project for the next year, create tasks within it with start and due dates, see it in your timeline and track them using dashboard widgets:
Please let me know if that's not what you meant, I'll be happy to discuss 🙌
